The 6th season trailer for DC's Legends of Tomorrow teases plenty of bizarre new twists and turns, including a full-on Disney-style animation segment.

Looks like the weirdness is still at full power after 5 seasons. DC's Legends of Tomorrow has kept up a steady vibe of strange and surreal happenings ever since its rather lackluster 1st season, and fans wouldn't have it any other way. Luckily for them, the trailer for its upcoming 6th season appears to have no intentions of slowing down in any way.

What is there even to say other than to just describe the madness occurring on screen? Somehow, even in a show that turned everyone into puppets and featured Marie Antoinette's talking severed head, every new season can reliably elicit a "...what?" from the audience. The trailer starts off with some campy horror vibes, complete with a retro-style 4:3 aspect ratio and scanline filter like some kind of classic Capcom game collection. An over-the-top narration sets the tone while a series of seemingly unrelated scenes flash by. This is pretty much the essence of Legends.

Not content to simply give a coherent teaser for what lies ahead, the trailer instead keeps things up like this, only glimpsing the season's overarching plot occasionally. After Sara Lance is abducted by the new big bad of the year, her love and co-captain Ava Sharpe vows to rescue her. Naturally, nothing goes according to plan, and when Sara tries to escape, she unleashes a horde of aliens throughout the timeline. That's right, the Legends have fought historical figures, demons, and historical figures that have become demons. So clearly the next logical step is aliens.

Granted, it's not like aliens are a new thing in The CW's DC universe. Both Supergirl and Superman and Lois feature protagonists that are, themselves, aliens. But they aren't quite the Baby Yoda callback that season 6 of Legends seems to be teasing. Aside from that, the trailer also gives a few shots of a surprisingly well-made homage to classic Disney animation, transforming relative newcomer Astra (Olivia Swann) into a 2D princess. Luckily, she can still beat down, as most princesses should. That's not to mention a further extension of that same animation style, this time featuring Matt Ryan's John Constantine turning into a giant devil creature that evokes some traumatizing Fantasia memories.

Luckily, pyromaniac Mick Rory seems to feature rather prominently as well in the wake of Dominic Purcell's impending departure from Legends of Tomorrow. If this trailer is anything to go on, the hot-headed team member still has that same wide-eyed and wider-mouth vibe that fans have come to expect. Though die-hards may wish to begin preparing themselves for the end, whenever that may be.

This trailer is some prime Legends material, and is just as nonsensical as should be expected. Now, that isn't a bad thing, and in fact almost feels reassuring given the nature of the series. The stranger things seem, the more at home fans will be, and maybe that's just what some people need right now. Some good old bizarre nostalgia.

Season 6 of DC's Legends of Tomorrow will premiere on The CW on May 2nd.
