May is almost here, and with it will be Pokemon GO's next community day. Considering how many Pokemon are currently implemented in-game, most players didn't guess the Pokemon that will appear as the next Community Day star, and not many expected what Niantic announced.
The May 2021 Community Day event in Pokemon GO will be on May 15th at 11:00 AM in players' local times. Players will have until 5:00 PM in their local time on Community Day to enjoy increased spawn rates for the event Pokemon and participate in the paid special research story. This special research costs $0.99 USD and can be pre-purchased from the in-game store before the event's start.

On Twitter, Niantic announced that May's Community Day star will be Swablu, the pre-evolved form of Altaria. While both Pokemon have already had their shiny forms implemented into Pokemon GO for some time, the May 2021 Community Day will be introducing Mega Altaria.
Swablu is a dual Normal and Flying-type Pokemon, making it weak to Ice, Rock, and Electric-type moves. It resists damage from Grass, Bug, Ghost, and Ground-type moves. If Swablu is given 400 Swablu candies it will evolve into Altaria.
Unlike Swablu, Altaria is a dual Dragon and Flying-type Pokemon. This gives it weaknesses to Ice, Fairy, Dragon, and Rock-type moves while resisting Fighting, Water, Bug, Fire, Grass, and Ground-type moves. Mega Altaria is a dual Dragon and Fairy-type Pokemon, making it weak to Poison, Steel, Ice, and Fairy-type moves. Its resistances have also changed with it resisting Dragon, Fighting, Bug, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, and Dark-type moves.
As soon as the Swablu Community Day event ends, Mega Altaria will start to appear in Mega Raids in Pokemon GO. During the event, however, players will be able to purchase the Community Day bundle from the in-game store. This bundle will cost 1,280 Pokecoins and can only be purchased once. It contains an Elite Fast TM, 50 Ultra Balls, five Super Incubators, and five incenses.
Like with the other Pokemon GO Community Day events, players can get an exclusive move for Altaria during the event if they evolve a Swablu or catch an Altaria from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM in their local times on the event's day. This exclusive move is Moonblast, a 130 power charged move that can only be taught outside the event if players use an elite-charged TM on an Altaria.
Compared to many other Pokemon, Swablu requires quite a lot of candy to evolve, so this event is the perfect time to build up the candy supply and obtain Altaria. Lucky shiny hunters may even find a shiny Swablu or Altaria to add to their collections.
