With a release date coming in June, Sony and Insomniac Games have really started to crank up marketing efforts to help get players excited for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Earlier this week, a brand new trailer showed off more of Rivet, the originally mysterious female lombax. Thanks to a rift opened by Dr. Nefarious, the dynamic duo have been separated from one another in a different dimension, with Clank joining forces with Rivet with Ratchet attempting to catch up with them.
The trailer was just the beginning, however, as Sony also revealed a new State of Play which introduced around 15 minutes of new gameplay as well as an overview of all the new and returning features. Fans got another look at Ratchet's side of the adventure along with some new movement options like wall running, but the spotlight was on Rivet and Clank as they took on returning bad guys from a previous Ratchet and Clank game, Going Commando. However, the end of the trailer also rattled off a ton of new features including the first ever photo mode for the series.

Photo Mode has become a standard feature for nearly all first party PlayStation titles and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is no exception. The trailer highlighted this feature very briefly, quickly moving through the various options players will have access to. In Camera Mode, players will have all of the settings expected such as different filters, lighting, focus distance, frames, frame positioning, stickers, a free camera, screen tilt, and more. Visibility options are also available, allowing players to hide all sorts of things including bolts, pickups, and the hero itself.
A character mode is also available in the Photo editor, giving players access to four different options for altering the character model. After turning on Posing, players can change how the character currently looks in the shot as well as the direction they're facing. In addition, the facial expression can also be shifted, similarly to what Guerrilla Games was able to do with the Photo Mode for its protagonist Aloy in Horizon: Zero Dawn. All in all, Photo Mode with Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart gives players access to a ton of different options and should result in some really unique and impressive community made photos.
Fans will likely have plenty to do once the game arrives in full. In addition to plenty of side missions through rifts, the gameplay trailer also confirmed dimensional Clank puzzles, giant open areas filled with secrets, glitch and arena challenges, as well as surprising aerial combat. To help in these new combat scenarios, Rift Apart features a brand new vendor service run by the character called Ms. Zurkon who offers players new weapons and upgrades in exchange for bolts.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart arrives on June 11, 2021 for PS5.
