Marvel’s Avengers' original leaked roster was massive, though the list of likely hero additions has been shrinking quite a bit in recent months.

Marvel’s Avengers fans are aware of the two next heroes that will be joining the growing games-as-a-service title, and many are excited to see them make their debut. Black Panther’s War for Wakanda expansion has the chance to present a new vision for the game and revive player interest, while many PlayStation fans have been waiting for Spider-Man to make his debut since the game first launched. Beyond Black Panther and Spider-Man, though, no other characters have been announced — though several have leaked.

While the original leaks for Marvel’s Avengers listed over a dozen post-launch heroes for the game, more recent leaks have narrowed that number down greatly. In the game’s code, dataminers have found several references to four specific unannounced heroes. Based on the number of references seen, the leakers have also provided an outline for when these heroes could be coming, giving Marvel’s Avengers fans a good idea of what to expect from future DLC updates. While characters from the older leak may still arrive, gamers should only expect those with files currently in the game to be added in the future.

According to reliable Marvel’s Avengers leaker Miller, the supposed DLC order will likely see She-Hulk being added to the game next. This would make sense for a few reasons. Not only is Jennifer Walters popular with comic book readers, but her upcoming MCU series on Disney+ will only serve to make her more popular. As a result, gamers may be looking for a way to play as the gamma-based hero once they finish watching the show, and Crystal Dynamics can fill this void by adding her to the game. With her origin story tied deeply to her cousin Bruce Banner, some strong cutscenes can be shared with Troy Baker’s well-acted version of the character.

As for Jennifer’s moveset, fans should not need to worry too much about her feeling too similar to The Hulk. After all, the DLCs for Clint Barton and Kate Bishop have proven that two heroes with the same movesets can have some vastly different gameplay, with the two Hawkeyes boasting different moves and arrows. Further, while She-Hulk does have the strength of her angrier relative, she is also incredibly fast. Classified as a speedster by Marvel, Crystal Dynamics can play off her quick attacks to help her feel different. As for the villain of the She-Hulk DLC, iconic adversaries like Titania and Absorbing Man could prove fun to fight against in-game — with the couple even having the chance to serve as the game’s first double boss fight.

Miller’s leak also stated that none other than The Winter Soldier would be coming to Marvel’s Avengers after She-Hulk, with the possibility for him to debut before She-Hulk also mentioned. With recent leaks allowing fans to hear voice lines of the entire cast of heroes referring to The Winter Soldier, it seems like work is already being done to add him to the game. With Falcon and The Winter Soldier proving to be a major success for the MCU, getting Bucky Barnes into the game sooner rather than later would definitely be a wise idea. With the MCU version of the character immensely popular with fans, though, it seems likely that players will be happy to control Cap’s sidekick whenever he shows up.

As for Winter Soldier’s moveset, Crystal Dynamics may have a tough time making the character work. While several moves could be designed around his mechanical arm, he is a fairly grounded character. This limits his moveset, as he lacks the powers of a Thor or Iron Man to wield against AIM. Still, Marvel’s Avengers’ Black Widow proved that a powerless character can be a lot of fun if designed correctly. If a similar path is taken with Bucky, he may be seen wielding several guns, ranging from a pistol to a grenade launcher. He could also get a buff of some kind via his ultimate ability, possibly supercharging his mechanical arm. While he may struggle with movement like Captain America, his melee abilities could prove to be entertaining.

Carol Danvers is possibly the most powerful character that has not yet been announced for Marvel’s Avengers, though leaks have indicated that she will come to the game eventually. This seems like a must given how Future Imperfect’s Wasteland was created because of the Kree attacks on Earth, as Captain Marvel’s origins are deeply tied to the alien race. Further, Carol has been confirmed to exist in the Crystal Dynamics universe, with Captain Marvel being idolized by Kamala Khan. As such, it will be great to see Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel interact once the latter finally joins the game’s roster.

As for her abilities, it can be expected that Carol will have an intrinsic ability similar to Thor’s. Much like The God of Thunder’s skill that lets him add lightning to all his attacks, Captain Marvel will likely be able to add cosmic energy to all of her hits. This same power will surely double as a defensive skill, protecting Carol from incoming damage. Energy blasts for range and flight for traversal will make her even more fun to use, and with tons of potential for an ultimate ability, Carol Danvers could quickly become the strongest Marvel’s Avengers hero.

Finally, War Machine is the last character with code currently seen in the game’s files. Another hero that would make sense given Crystal Dynamics style of echo-like fighters, there would be some clear similarities between Rhodey and his close friend Tony Stark. At the same time, War Machine’s playstyle would likely be more focused on his minigun, rockets, and possibly even the Manticore mech from the comics. This would make him a fair bit different in terms of combat, with possible costumes including Iron Patriot and the Punisher-themed War Machine suit from the books.

Story-wise, adding him after Captain Marvel would make sense, as Rhodey’s romantic relationship with Carol from the comics can be explored. Similar to how the two Hawkeyes were given one large story, a full story arc could be made out of a two-part Operation. Possibly even seeing War Machine head to space to assist Captain Marvel, this content could end up being some of the most interesting in the game. With the MCU version of War Machine set to get more screentime in the upcoming Armor Wars series on Disney+, the hero is another great chance to capitalize on the hype for Marvel’s characters.

The original leak featured far more names, though fans should have their doubts given the fact that none of the heroes have had work put into them. Possibly scrapped due to the game’s early struggles or simply not yet being worked on, these are the other leaked heroes that could join Marvel’s Avengers one day.

  • Ant-Man
  • Doctor Strange
  • Falcon
  • Mar-Vell
  • Mockingbird
  • Quake
  • Scarlet Witch
  • Spider-Woman
  • Vision
  • Wasp

Among this list are some interesting options, some of which seem more likely than others. With Hank Pym in the game already, and Pym Particles already accessible in-game as a status effect, it would be surprising if Ant-Man and The Wasp never appeared as playable characters. Vision’s phasing could be plenty of fun, and while Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange’s magic would make them truly unique, this would require entirely new movesets be added to the game. Quake, Mockingbird, and Mar-Vell are obscure additions, though Mar-Vell could make an appearance in Captain Marvel’s DLC.

As for Falcon, his wings could be a ton of fun to use, while Spider-Woman could offer Xbox and PC users a chance to control a Spider-Man-like hero. As always, though, leaks should be taken with a grain of salt. For now, fans should only expect the king of Wakanda and the friendly neighborhood webslinger to come to the Marvel’s Avengers.

Marvel’s Avengers is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
