From Materials to Words and even weapons, Nier Replicant has a multiple of items for completionists to track down and to collect.

Yoko Taro’s games have never shied away from secrets or hidden items. The first Drakengard on the PlayStation 2 demanded that players collect all 65 weapons in the game just to see the fifth ending (setting up Nier’s story), and many of them were well hidden. Nier Replicant isn’t as vindictive when it comes to its hidden items, but don’t expect to find everything on a first playthrough.

From Materials to Words and even weapons, Nier Replicant has a multiple of items for completionists to track down and to collect. Unfortunately, the grindy nature of the game and poor RNG can spell an uphill battle – especially for those items that are already a pain to get your hands on. Spoilers for Nier Replicant

10 Eagle Eggs

Eagle Eggs are necessary for upgrading some of the best weapons in Nier Replicant, along for the side quest On the Wings of Eagles. Eagle Eggs can only be found at harvest points in The Aerie, arguably one of the most tedious areas to grind for items in. While an Eagle Egg will spawn during On the Wings of Eagles, 4 more are needed to upgrade every weapon.

Along with Eagle Eggs being a rare drop, it’s unlikely players will naturally find 5 total Eagle Eggs on one natural playthrough. The fastest way to get Eagle Eggs is to plunder all the harvest points in The Aerie, save at the mailbox, and then reload via the in-game Options menu. All the harvest points will respawn and you’ll get more chances to find Eagle Eggs.

9 Titanium Alloy

Completionists will need a lot of Titanium Alloy if they want to do every side quest and upgrade every weapon in Nier Replicant. Unfortunately, they’re a rare drop that’s only found in the Junk Heap – already one of the most revisited areas in the game. Titanium Alloy commonly drops from the large robots on the second, but they aren’t exactly prominent. Smaller robots have the chance of dropping Titanium Alloy, but the RNG will rarely be in your favor.

8 Pink Moonflower Seeds

10 Pink Moonflower Seeds are needed to complete the Life in the Sands side quest, along with growing the legendary Lunar Tear (necessary for a Trophy). Unfortunately, Pink Moonflower Seeds cannot be purchased at any Grocer. Instead, they need to be farmed by splicing flowers together to create Hybrid Seeds.

To get Pink Moonflowers, plant Gold and Blue Flowers in alternating plots. Let all your crops wither over a 48 hour period and you’ll have the chance of getting Indigo Moonflower Seeds. Now plant Gold and Red Flowers in alternating plots and they'll have a chance to grow into Peach Moonflower Seeds when withered. Finally, splice Indigo and Peach Moonflower Seeds together for a very small chance to get Pink Moonflower Seeds.

7 Fool’s Weapons

Completing the game once unlocks World of the Recycled Vessel on New Game Plus – the original game’s sole piece of DLC. World of the Recycled Vessel is an enemy gauntlet spread across 15 floors where you play as Father Nier instead of Brother Nier. Completing World of the Recycled Vessel rewards the player with three total weapons.

Fool’s Embrace, a One-Handed Sword, is unlocked by playing through the first door. Fool’s Lament, a Two-Handed Sword, is unlocked by playing through the second door. Fool’s Accord, a Spear, is unlocked by playing through the final door. All three weapons are needed to see Endings C through E, so make sure to play through World of the Recycled Vessel in full (a minimum of Lv. 33 is recommended).

6 Damascus Steel

The Fool’s set of weapons make up Nier’s strongest equipment in the game, so it makes sense they aren’t easy to upgrade. While each Fool’s weapon only needs three of a single material to be upgraded, said material is obscenely hard to find. Damascus Steel can only be found in Part 2 and only in the Junk Heap’s box room on the second floor. Damascus Steel has a very rare chance of appearing inside the boxes, which means you’ll need to revisit the room quite often.

5 Rhizodont

The Fisherman’s Gambit is one of Nier Replicant’s standout side quests, tasking players with catching fish all over the world while honing their abilities. After fully completing the quest line, Nier becomes skilled enough to reel in the legendary Rhizodont. The Rhizodont can only be found in the sandsea outside Facade. Use Sardines as your bait and get ready to be very patient. Even if you hook a Rhizodont, they require a lot of stamina to fully reel in.

4 Mahzarken

Word Edit is Nier Replicant’s main means of offering player customization. All of Nier’s weapons and Sealed Verses can be equipped with different Words that offer buffs and other properties (like poisoning enemies). The Mah- series of Words increase Item Drop Rate, which is extremely useful for all the grinding in-game.

Mahzarken increases a player’s Item Drop Rate by 30%. When equipped with both your Martial Arts and your main weapon/spell, it’s possible to increase your drop rate by 90%. Mahzarken drops from enemies in the Lost Shrine and has a decent chance of dropping considering how often the dungeon is revisiting.

3 Lost Shrine “Treasure”

The Damaged Map is one of Nier Replicant’s lengthier side quests. The home stretch of the quest tasks players with finding “treasure” in a part of the Lost Shrine where sunlight never reaches. As you’re making your way up to the second floor, you’ll notice a pile of rubble blocking an entrance – the treasure is sparkling right behind it. The doorway into the room will be just up ahead, but said treasure will actually be a Pile of Junk.

2 Magical Stone

The Magical Stone is a late game Side Quest that only appears after collecting all five Key Fragments. The Magical Stone is the only way to collect missables Words from Part 1 in Part 2, so completionists will want to take on the quest. Before you can grind for Words, you need the actual Magical Stone. Head up to the top floor of the Lost Shrine, and push the first block you see towards an otherwise inaccessible ledge. Jump up and the Magical Stone will be lying in wait.

1 Iron Pipe

The Iron Pipe is the first weapons players use in Nier Replicant, losing it after the Prologue. Fortunately, the Iron Pipe can be obtained by two means. The first is to complete The Magical Stone Side Quest. Upon finishing the combat section of the quest (done by using The Magical Stone in the Forest of Myth), you’ll be awarded the Iron Pipe. The second way of obtaining the Iron Pipe is by beating the game on New Game Plus. Route C will start you off with the Iron Pipe in your inventory.
