When the G4TV channel ended in 2014, it marked the end of what many gamers at the time considered the best channel for video game content on television. The channel was known as much for its comedy as it was for gaming news coverage, with popular shows like Attack of the Show and X-Play finding a large audience during primetime hours. G4 revealed in 2020 that it would be returning in 2021, and its latest announcement confirms Attack of the Show and X-Play will be a part of the programming this year.
G4TV launched in 2002 with a week-long marathon of the arcade game classic, Pong. What followed was a stream of programs aimed primarily at young adult males that covered all things gaming. Shows on G4TV featured personalities such as Adam Sessler, Morgan Webb, Olivia Munn, Kevin Pereira, and plenty of others. The G4TV channel was dead for six years until the Twitter accounts of G4, Attack of the Show, and X-Play came back to announce the return of the network in 2021. Today, another tweet from G4 has confirmed that fans will be able to watch Attack of the Show and X-Play this summer.

G4's tweet is a video showing an old box TV. The TV flickers on with the G4 logo and then the X-Play show logo appears a moment later. Some old audio files (possibly from X-Play or Attack of the Show) play in the background as the Attack of the Show logo appears next, and the video ends with the channel's revival slogan, "We never stopped playing."
Buried in the middle are the statements "the legends return" and "summer 2021." Fans have begun to speculate whether "legends" refers to the returning shows or some of the original cast members as well. It was confirmed in August 2020 that Olivia Munn was in talks to join G4's revival, so it is possible that fans could see Munn hosting Attack of the Show again.
As for "summer 2021," that seems to be the time that the new G4 network will finally launch. G4 hasn't been straightforward about when exactly it will launch, only stating it would be in 2021. Before today's announcement, the latest news from the official G4 Twitter account was a Bernie Sanders inauguration meme that hinted at an X-Play reboot.
Besides the return of Attack of the Show and X-play, it has also been announced that WWE Superstar Austin Creed will be a G4TV host, though which show he is hosting isn't known at this point. For fans of G4TV in its glory days, it seems there is finally an end in sight to the wait for new G4 gaming content.
