The popular manga and anime series Made in Abyss is set to receive its own video game adaptation from developer Spike Chunsoft.

Made in Abyss, the long-running manga and anime series from Akihito Tsukushi is set to receive its own video game adaptation. Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness will launch on the Switch, PlayStation 4, and Steam, and has been confirmed for a North American and European release.

The newly announced title is being developed and published by established game studio Spike Chunsoft. The developers behind the franchise-melding Jump Force fighting game, Spike Chunsoft knows a thing or two when it comes to bringing manga and anime characters to an action-filled video game.

While this is the first time Made in Abyss is getting adapted into a game, the manga has been running since 2012. The series' plot centers around an orphaned girl named Riko, who lives in Orth, a town surrounding a giant deep hole in the earth called the Abyss. The Abyss contains treasure and artifacts from an ancient civilization, but the deeper explorers, or "Cave Raiders" go, the more likely they'll suffer from a mysterious curse that is oftentimes fatal.

On an expedition, Riko finds and befriends an android named Reg, and sometime later the two re-enter the Abyss after finding evidence Riko's mother is alive but waiting at the bottom. The game's perspective is of a nameless Cave Raider, who begins their adventure "many days" after Riko and Reg's departure.

The game is intended to be a 3D action RPG and will have fans reliving the anime's story in addition to a new narrative supervised by Tuskushi himself. Players can expect an accurate adaptation, as the event scenes will be fully voiced by the anime's cast.

While Spike Chunsoft seems to gravitate towards turning animation IP into video games, fellow Japanese company Nintendo is looking to turn its video game IP into animations. Nintendo's president recently suggested it's interested in adapting more of its properties into movies, and TV shows, showing that the world of TV and video games is becoming more cohesive than ever before.
