Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players have responded well to Season 3’s content, with the game’s new 6v6 maps providing a much-needed breath of fresh air. Unfortunately, Season 3 has brought some new bugs as well, with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans now struggling to identify teammates.
Thus far, most of the bugs discovered in Season 3 have been relatively small. The missing text in the Hunt for Adler event, for example, was hardly game-breaking. In the same vein, the rainbow-textured Hellhounds can be annoying for some, though others find the bug to be more funny than problematic. However, the latest glitch sees Call of Duty players no longer seeing the names of teammates above their heads. While this may seem small, it is actually a fairly big deal — especially given how widespread the issue is

Reddit user SwordOfArey pointed out the issue, with their teammates icon not popping up unless they were specifically hovered over. They also point to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s mini-map to show proof of the issue, with the teammate’s arrow clearly seen on the radar. Not only will this likely lead to players shooting their teammate for several seconds, wasting their time and ammo, but the firing will also see the positions of both gamers revealed to the enemy team. Throughout the comments, several gamers can be seen saying that they have stumbled upon this bug in their games.
However, the game’s community also seems to have stumbled upon the bug’s main cause. According to Hoshiko-Yoshida, the trigger for the issue is tied to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Outbreak mode. Specifically, switching from the open-world Zombies offering to a multiplayer match will cause the issue to take place. The Redditor also adds that it impacts aim assist, making it tougher for console players to hit their targets.
Fortunately, Treyarch community manager FoxhoundFPS responded to the post. Continuing his consistency with community updates, the developer assured players that the studio is “tracking” the issue. FoxhoundFPS also asks for additional info as to how exactly the bug occurs, so those impacted by the problems should reach out to him via the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War subreddit. While no ETA is provided for a fix, an upcoming patch is coming that will address issues like the bugged ballistic knife blueprint. As such, the first chance for a fix to come will be this update.
For now, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players may want to restart their game after matches of Outbreak are finished. Currently, jumping straight into a match of multiplayer afterwards seems to put gamers at a massive disadvantage.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
