Dead by Daylight recently announced that it would be releasing Tome 7: Forsaken, with the headline attraction being an insight into the backstory of survivor and Left 4 Dead icon Bill Overbeck. Today, the update has officially launched, coming loaded with new content, long-requested accessibility options, and fresh challenges.
The big additions this time are focused on Bill, with Behaviour Interactive promising new challenges that will unlock interesting glimpses into the character's past. That includes documenting how he came to be a part of Left 4 Dead's squad among other undisclosed parts of his backstory.

The update will also bring plenty of new cosmetics to the game, including themed charms, exclusive outfits for Bill, and cosmetics for other Dead by Daylight characters. Players can even get the "Freestyle Claudette" skin, which was influenced by community member NoHeQuin's winning entry to the 2020 Community Contest. Alongside that, the game has added new Blue Glyph Challenges, which task players with finding a glyph during a match that will award them a debilitating debuff. Managing to survive with the status ailment will offer experienced players a chance to test their skills while wracking up rewards along the way.
However, the update won't just be content-focused, with it also offering some long-requested accessibility options and visual upgrades. There's a new change to hook struggle inputs that reduce the number of inputs-per-second needed to prolong being sacrificed, with Behaviour Interactive hoping it'll assist those struggling with RSI. It's also toned down The Doctor's madness effects to help epileptics, with the killer previously having the power to project flashing lights onto the screen without warning.
The Doctor has seen other sweeping changes too, with the Dead by Daylight killer receiving a visual overhaul. Behaviour Interactive claims it should improve his performance, while it's also added clearer visuals for each of his madness levels. The Coldwin Farm map has also received some major visual upgrades, adding brighter lighting to the map as well as updating its textures. A video going over the visual upgrades shows how vastly different the map will look going forward, with the brighter lighting lending it a unique feel in comparison to other realms.
The update is a pretty hefty mid-season patch with a lot for fans to get excited about. The next major update for the game will likely be its recently announced Resident Evil crossover, which was revealed during the horror series' anniversary stream. Little is known about the pack, but players have already suggested an array of characters that could potentially crop up in the collaboration, including the likes of Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, and Nemesis.
Dead by Daylight is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
