Microids announces Flashback 2, a sequel to Delphine Software's 1992 cinematic platformer Flashback, which is set to be released on PC and consoles in 2022. The sequel will arrive just in time for the original game's 30th anniversary.

Flashback 2 is something of a surprise. The original game, designed by Paul Cuisset, was released to critical acclaim thanks to its rotoscoped visuals that were similar to the original Prince of Persia. A third-person shooter sequel, Fade to Black, which was also designed by Cuisset, was released in 1995 for the PlayStation and MS-DOS. A remake of Flashback was released in 2013 by now-defunct developer VectorCell and publisher Ubisoft, but was poorly received.

Not much has been revealed about Flashback 2 so far. Microids said in a press release that Cuisset is once again involved in the development, and that the game will star series protagonist Conrad B. Hart. "Developing a sequel to Flashback is an idea I’ve had for a very long time," Cuisset said in the press release. "I can’t wait for players to discover the new adventures of Conrad B. Hart, a character created almost 30 years ago. With Microids, we are really aiming to please the fans of the original title while being appealing to any players with a weak spot for futuristic games." Microids also tweeted out a logo for the game on Tuesday.

Flashback 2 is not the first sequel to a classic game that Microids has recently released. In 2020, Microids published the console editions of Beyond a Steel Sky, a sequel to the 1994 graphic adventure Beneath a Steel Sky, to positive reviews. It also released a remake of the 2003 game XIII to negative reception and major technical problems.

Flashback 2 will be released on PC and consoles in 2022.
