In Bungie's latest rundown of patch notes for Season 13, rockets are getting a boost, while swords will see a sizable decline in power.

Weapon balancing is a vital part of any MMO. It's what separates the successful titles from the short-lived games that just couldn't find that special equation to keep the player base coming back for more. This is especially true for Bungie's MMO Looter-Shooter, Destiny 2. There are several weapon types and archetypes that need consistent fine-tuning for both PvE and PvP activities.

Throughout the game's existence, Bungie has revealed dozens of sandbox tuning adjustments and weapon changes that directly affect the player's ability in-game. Normally, changes made between seasons don't severely alter the game. Season 13 in Destiny 2 could be the exception to that rule.

The changes coming in Season of the [REDACTED] have incrementally been released by Bungie throughout the last several weeks. Each edition of  This Week at Bungie focused on something different. On January 21, a new feature called "Title Gilding" was discussed in the weekly Destiny 2 blog. Players who earned titles such as Unbroken, Dredgen, and Flawless will have the opportunity to re-earn them starting in Season 13. Each time the title is earned moving forward, a new characteristic will show up next to the title's icon. In the January 28 edition of the TWAB, Bungie dedicated an entire block to weapon tuning, announcing heavy changes moving forward.

Rocket launchers in Season 13 are getting their damage boosted by 30-percent. According to Bungie, Exotic rocket launchers were adjusted individually, rather than as a whole weapon type. This was most likely done to not deliver a huge boost of damage to Eyes of Tomorrow, the Deep Stone Crypt raid exotic weapon. As for swords, they're receiving an opposite alteration in Season 13. Due to swords being " extremely dominant in PvE," sword damage is getting reduced by 15-percent. The Lament, an exotic sword, appears to be in the damage nerf group as well and will not receive a lone adjustment.

Even though rocket launcher and sword changes sent a minor shockwave throughout the community, this was not the focus of the January 28 TWAB. Bungie announced the debut of Seasonal Challenges in Season 13. Without giving away too much, it looks very similar to Fortnite's system that runs alongside the Battle Pass. Rewards will consist of XP and Bright Dust. The best part about Destiny 2's system is its inclusion of players who do not own the Season Pass. According to Bungie, around 60-percent of the Seasonal Challenges in Season 13 do not require the Season Pass.

Despite Destiny 2 players possibly showing frustration by this batch of sandbox changes, Bungie gave specific examples as to why they were coming. Swords were reportedly used by 65-percent of players during the majority of their gameplay. Meanwhile, rocket launchers were not relevant in the grand scheme of activities. They received their nerf when the cluster bombs perk needed to be changed due to its high-damage potential against Riven. Bungie still noted there are more patch previews coming out the week of February 1, so Destiny 2 players may want to pay attention.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
