Major League Baseball player Jesus Luzardo explains how he injured his hand playing video games four hours before a game against Baltimore.

Video games like Dark Souls have triggered fleeting moments of anger amongst the best of people, but Major League Baseball pitcher Jesus Luzardo says that is not what happened to him.

The Venezuelan-Peruvian baseball star plays for California’s Oakland Athletics team and was a starter in Saturday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles. Though he says he felt okay to pitch before the game began, midway through it became apparent an injury was preventing Luzardo from playing to the best of his ability. The Oakland Athletics team lost the game 4-8 and afterwards Luzardo got an x-ray which revealed he had a hairline fracture in his pinkie. In a press conference Oakland Athletics coach Bob Melvin explained that Luzardo sustained the injury playing a video game.

Luzardo has now piped up to explain the full story of how the injury occurred. Luzardo clarified that the injury was not caused by an angry reaction, but a general reaction to something that happened in the game. He moved his hand to the side and accidentally hit it on a nearby table. Unfortunately, Luzardo never clarified the game he was playing when he sustained the injury. In response to the event Luzardo apologized to his team, “It was an immature mistake, and it was a stupid mistake. But I still made a mistake and that’s something that I’m going to learn from and I’m not going to do again.” Luzardo said that while he would continue to play video games outside of baseball, he would now be shifting the ill-placed table that hurt him.

Luzardo reported that his teammates were supportive and forgiving of the accident, saying “I felt like they did have my back.” Coach Melvin reported that Luzardo was unnecessarily apologetic about the matter, saying it was normal for young men to play games and sometimes accidents happen. Coach Melvin is right, this is not the first time a Major League Baseball player has been injured playing video games.

There is currently no word on when Luzardo will be able to return as starting pitcher for Oakland Athletics and while fans might be disappointed to hear that Luzardo will be unable to play for at least 10 days, hopefully fans can be understanding of the incident. Luzardo is only 23 years old, and it is natural that he would play video games to unwind before and after work.

Some fans are hoping that the time off will do Luzardo good. Luzardo has struggled this season even before this injury, and many are hoping that the break will rejuvenate his pitching. Only time will tell if this is true, but for now fans are left wondering: What was the game that struck down the Major League Player?
