Returnal players have discovered the presence of some cheat codes that can make the game much easier to progress through. However, it turns out that getting those Returnal cheats isn't as easy as mashing on a few buttons.
Since the newest Housemarque project released, most of the discussion on it centered around how difficult it was. The action rogue-like has strong Metroid vibes that has kept people coming back for the most part. There are some who have said that fighting their way through enemies over and over again, with underpowered weapons has dampened their love of the game. Using the recently discovered cheats can fix that to some degree, as long as players have the wherewithal to go through the steps to get them.

The first hurdle is that the "cheat codes" can only be accessed on the PS5 exclusive using a keyboard. It's likely these were intended to be accessed by devs for debugging and testing. The cheats allow users to spawn as many weapons as they would like in front of them. They also give players the ability to spawn back to Selene's ship, with most of those Returnal weapons and gear intact.
The Returnal cheat codes were first discovered by YouTube user, TheRandomizer who posted a video of them in action. He included the codes users could input with the keyboard in order to take advantage. However, it turns out it's not as simple as grabbing a keyboard and typing them in anymore. Housemarque has since patched out the apparent back door.
However, because the fix did come in a patch, users are still able to use the cheats. They just to make sure and not download the fix that wipes it out. This is easier said than done in digital versions of the game, but can certainly be worked out for those who have it on disc.
The other issue that has popped up for Returnal users tired of losing their loot, is that the cheats need to be used in specific sections of the game. Some have warned that if they use the dev cheat codes after Biome 3 or in Biome 4 it doesn't work as well as it does in the first few biomes. Users will still be returned to Selene's ship, in order to start the run over again. However, any progress made will apparently be wiped away in the process; including upgrades that should have stayed.
