The official Call of Duty Twitter account is teasing a mysterious new object that's suddenly appeared in Call of Duty: Warzone.

The highly competitive market for AAA battle royale games demands constant small and large updates, map alterations, and most importantly surprises and mystery. Call of Duty: Warzone is quickly catching up to Fortnite in this regard. The latest example from Call of Duty: Warzone was shared Saturday morning via social media. An "unknown" object has been signed in Call of Duty: Warzone's map Verdansk. Fans of the battle royale are left speculating what it could be.

Activision shared the teaser on Twitter, telling fans that, "An unknown object  has arrived in Verdansk," and asking, "What lies beneath the tarp?" The attached image shows a large, monolith-shaped object covered in a tarp. The object sits in the middle of a flowing courtyard in front of Verdansk's stadium. There also appears to be a plaque mostly covered by the tarp at the base of the object, though it could simply part of the object's concrete foundation.

No further context is provided for the teaser, leaving Call of Duty: Warzone players to speculate what it could be. The leading theory is that it's a trophy or a statue of some kind, which does seem like the obvious conclusion. Other Twitter users are joking that it's Resident Evil Village's Lady Dimitrescu due to its height, or jokingly saying it's the Battlefield 6 reveal that's been rumored recently. One mindful player went ahead and looked in-game for himself, noting that the tarp is pulled up just enough to see the word "Champions" inscribed near the bottom.

Given that the object is located in front of Verdansk 1984's mid-construction stadium, which implies a relation to sports or competition, most Call of Duty: Warzone players think that they've already got the answer. After all, the biggest event in Call of Duty right now is the Dallas Empire Home Series of the Call of Duty League. What better way to celebrate the esports event than to immortalize the winners with a statue in Call of Duty: Warzone.

Some players may question what the point of having a Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War esports statue in Call of Duty: Warzone is. The answer is probably that altering any of the competitive maps in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in a way where the statue is central may alter the map's design too much. Whereas in Warzone, the statue will have a permanent place where players can check it out in relative safety.

Regardless, whatever the statue may be, Activision has decided to make an event out of its reveal. The statue's unveiling probably won't be held off too long, so as to make the most of the hype surrounding the Call of Duty League, if that's what the tarped object is. The Dallas event ends this Sunday, so expect a reveal as soon as next week.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
