While gamers typically associate the Super Mario franchise with family-friendly fun, one popular character appears to pushing the envelope. If a new render is any indication, Waluigi is ready to express a more flirtatious side of his personality than people may have expected.
Despite only making minor appearances throughout the Super Mario series, Waluigi has earned himself a devoted fanbase. For one, the idea of his character is absurd: he is a twisted version of Luigi in the same way greedy treasure hunter Wario is a twisted version of Mario. His absurd personality also helps. While he is capable of winning kart races and tennis matches through legitimate skill, Waluigi is a cynical defeatist constantly looking to cheat or blame his failures on unfair circumstances. This has lead many to root for Waluigi to get more attention, or even his own standalone game.

Revealed as part of a video for the unboxing of the Nintendo Switch Lite Blue model, Waluigi's new render sees him strike a suggestive pose that accentuates his curves. He holds a rose, a symbol of romance, while sticking out his tongue. It's the sort of pose one would more commonly associate with a character like Bayonetta, rather than a family-friendly character like Waluigi. Regardless, fans will likely be quick to jump on the render.
There is at least a bit of precedent for Waluigi's render. When using his special move in Mario Tennis Aces, Waluigi summons a rose and does a little dance as flower petals fly around the screen. Most players probably assumed this was a one-off gag for that game, but if it now appears in an official Waluigi render, it may become a core aspect of his personality.
Nintendo's video simply included the render for a brief moment without remarking on it. The video's hosts invoke Waluigi while arguing about whether the Nintendo Switch Lite Blue is actually blue, or closer to a purple color. The system seems pretty close to the color of Waluigi's shirt and cap, though it's up to personal interpretation whether his clothes are blue or purple.
Waluigi's new render probably comes from the upcoming game Mario Golf: Super Rush, which means that he may have some special moves involving the render's rose and pose. While fans have accepted Waluigi's exclusion from mainline Super Mario titles as a running joke at this point, it's a shame that he doesn't have an outlet to fully express his personality in-game. Perhaps a starring role in a future game could change that.
