The Far Cry 6 community deserves a round of applause for patiently waiting for some time now, despite the game not having much to show for itself.

Ubisoft's Far Cry games have been some of the most popular open-world sandboxes for quite some time now. Constantly pushing the envelope for systemic open-world design, the Far Cry games have implored players to create their own fun in some of the most exotic locations around a rather realistic world.

The latest in the line is Far Cry 6, a title with a lot of surrounding hype and speculation. Originally scheduled to release in February this year, the game has now been pushed back to a later, unannounced date. With no more substantial updates regarding the game, patient fans really need a round of applause for their understanding.

Fans of the Far Cry franchise havem thankfully enough, never have had to wait for so long for information regarding the next entry in the series. Ever since the series debuted in 2004, fans have consistently gotten entries in the franchise at an interval of 4 years (excluding spinoffs such as Far Cry Primal and Far Cry New Dawn). This does put Far Cry 6's projected 2021 release to be a moment of rejoicing, particularly since Far Cry 5 released a little over 3 years ago.

However, almost every Far Cry game prior had loads of marketing material surrounding it, with gameplay footage being shown as early as possible. While Far Cry 6 isn't exactly shrouded in mystery, there is definitely a lot less information available than what fans would like given how it's been done in the past. However, it's refreshing to see fans patiently waiting out for the game to be ready instead of demanding developers that the game be released as soon as possible.

Far Cry 6 is seemingly turning out to be a radical departure from the series' traditional formula, with big changes to both the gameplay and the narrative. As opposed to previous entries in the series which were deeply rooted in the themes of survival, Far Cry 6 is transitioning it to tackle the struggles of a rebellion group. Protagonist Dani isn't an outsider trapped in Yara, but a native. On the gameplay side of things, Far Cry 6 will the first game to be set in a city, although surrounding areas such as forests would also be explorable.

With so many planned changes to the formula, it's undoubtedly a unique concept and challenge for Ubisoft to deliver on all of its promises and satisfy veterans as well as newcomers to the series. Community support is especially important in this case, as other Ubisoft franchises such as Assassin's Creed have come under scrutiny by many fans regarding the series' newfound direction. However, it seems that the Far Cry community is willing to accept changes to the formula, and is rather excited to see what's in store. Ubisoft needs to do Far Cry 6 right, as its success could be a driving factor in deciding the future direction of the franchise, and it seems a lot of fans understand that, as well as the state of the world right now.

Far Cry 6 is currently in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
