A Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War bug makes it hard to determine friends from foes on the battlefield making hardcore misfires a lethal mistake.

Hardcore is a popular game mode for many fans in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. In this mode, players have their interface removed, and they must rely on their sight, hearing, and accuracy to win. Due to hardcore covering a variety of different Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War game modes, it can be difficult to know who is an ally and who is an enemy.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans are growing frustrated at the lack of target clarity within the game mode. The obvious answer to this is to pay attention to player nametags, but a recent bug has made this difficult. While player nameplates are still within the game, they have to be seen with extra steps.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fan 'natedogg' posted an image from his game for fans to see. The player is in a round of hardcore Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, but his allies are ahead of him, running without any visible nameplates. In the title, the fan makes it clear that he can ADS to see the names, but this slows him down and makes the game more difficult than it needs to be. Further, previous versions of this game mode have always shown ally and enemy tags, making this bug exceedingly frustrating for dedicated hardcore players to deal with.

Fans are unsure of what causes this bug to appear, but it is not always present within the game mode. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War zombie fans claim that it occurs when switching from zombies to multiplayer, but other fans believe that it's a constant multiplayer problem. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War hardcore fans have little option than to check each enemy for friendly or not.

The bug is not exclusive to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War hardcore game modes. Fans have seen the same problem appear in core and league play, but it is less lethal in those game modes. In hardcore, a misplaced shot can end an ally's life while bullets pass through teammates in other competitive environments.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War bugs can often be game-breaking, but this one mainly affects a single audience of players. While there are other options for fans to enjoy until this is fixed, the hardcore community will have to be careful and watch where they are shooting. Treyarch is investigating the issue and looking into a variety of solutions.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
