Fortnite has begun revealing details regarding its latest update patch. The 16.40 update sees the addition of several new pieces of content, while simultaneously vaulting others. The biggest takeaway from the Fortnite patch notes however is the conspicuous hint of the next Wild Week theme.

Epic Games' continuously popular battle royale shooter is now in the last few weeks of its sixth season. Season 6, dubbed "Primal," has introduced a variety of major changes to Fortnite's meta. Beyond the normally occurring map alterations, the season introduced a weapon crafting system, Primal-type weapons, items to modify vehicles, and other overt dynamic shifts that players seem to have a love-hate relationship with.

Posted via the official Fortnite Status Twitter account, where Fortnite posts its service update info, the v16.40 update reveals several significant changes slated for the game. The first patch note indicates The Dub will be vaulted, the Exotic version of the double-barreled shotgun, in place of a new Exotic. The new weapon in question is called the Marksman Six Shooter, likely an Exotic version of the Six Shooter vaulted since the 11.0 patch. "Summer-themed" additions are slated to come to Creative, although it doesn't specify what those additions might be. Lastly, the tweet says "catch a win" for the next Wild Week beginning May 13, a blatant indicator that the upcoming week's theme will be centered around fishing.

For those who may still be unaware, Fortnite kicked off its Wild Weeks last Thursday with the theme "Fighting Fire with Fire." The new in-game event puts an emphasis on a unique gameplay dynamic every week for the rest of the current season. As the first week's theme name indicates, fire-related items around the island have been heavily buffed. Not only have items like Primal Flame Bows and Firefly Jars been spawning more frequently, but flames cause more damage and travel faster than usual, making a water-related gameplay aspect a sensible antithesis.

The new Exotic announcement and even the hint of the next Wild Week theme are fairly cut-and-dry statements, but the summer-themed Creative additions pique curiosity. While it's entirely possible Fortnite is gearing up with new assets for the coming season, the use of the surfboard emoji has sparked speculation amongst the game's Twitter community. Some fans are theorizing the emoji could be a subtle nod that a version of the driftboard could be coming back, an item not seen since Fortnite's first chapter.

Downtime for the 16.40 update patch is expected to start on May 11 at 1 am PT, and should be ready to go a few hours later. The new patch isn't the only thing Fortnite announced today, however. DC superhero Beast Boy is coming to the game, accompanied by a Teen Titans Cup that will give out rewards to anyone who participates.

Fortnite is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
