The Echoing Ruins is Returnal is full of familiar places, but players wanting to get its Sunface Fragment will need to explore uncharted territory.

The Echoing Ruins may look very similar to the Overgrown Ruins, but Returnal players will soon find that it is packed with new challenges and tough enemies. This area acts as the player's new starting point during Act 2, but they'll need to come back if they want to unlock the secret ending. In order to do this, players will need to collect Sunface Fragments, one from each biome, and then revisit Selene's house one last time before defeating the final boss once again to see the secret ending.

Before Returnal players start searching for these elusive Sunface Fragments, it's important to understand the requirements to make them spawn. The most important thing is that players need to have already beaten Act 2 once, but they also need to have seen all five house sequences as well. This is a minor spoiler, but players will know they've completed the last house sequence when they learn the truth about what caused Helios to crash.

Like the second Sunface Fragment, getting ahold of this one will require players to have found the Promethean Insulators. These are the only optional Xenotech Device in the game, so players will want to make sure they find them. For those that may have missed it, head back to the Fractured Wastes biome and go through the locked door in the hub area. The Promethean Insulators can be found there and allow the player to walk on the red, hazardous floors found throughout Atropos.

With the Promethean Insulators in tow, head back to Returnal's fourth biome. While exploring the Echoing Ruins, be sure to keep an eye out for side path doors. These are marked with a triangle on the map rather than a rectangle, and the Sunface Fragment is always behind one of these. In one of these doors, players will pass through a field that disables dash and find a room with hazardous floors. Walk across this, being careful to avoid the pulsing energy rings, and get to the other side in order to find the fourth Sunface Fragment lying next to another version of Selene in front of a locked door.

Players don't need to go through the locked door to get this Sunface Fragment, meaning it doesn't require a key or anything like that. This one can be a bit challenging to find thanks to the tough enemies that roam the Echoing Ruins and the fact that players probably aren't geared up too much yet. Players can now continue on to the Fractured Waste or head back to find the Overgrown Ruins, Crimson Wastes, or Derelict Citadel Sunface Fragments.

Returnal is available now on PS5.
