Hood: Outlaws & Legends is finally out for awaiting fans but there are some things we wish we knew about the game before starting it.

Hood: Outlaws & Legends has finally hit the scene, although it definitely releases at a questionable time. Resident Evil: Village has taken over the gaming community and there are many players who are enjoying the horror adventure. Because of this, it's likely we won't see a ton of attention thrown towards Hood: Outlaws & Legends until players are done making their way through Castle Dimitrescu. But what exactly awaits those players, and is Hood worth the timesink?

There are a lot of questions surrounding the direction of Hood: Outlaws & Legends and what players can expect in the future. In its current state, the game is lacking variety, but developers are already hard at work bringing in fresh content and new ideas to help adapt to what gamers are looking for with the Robin Hood-inspired title. Still, for those of you looking to jump into the action right now, there are a lot of things you should know before you start your adventure.

8 It's Multiplayer Only

This is the big caveat for a lot of players out there and the single-most-important thing you need to consider when grabbing Hood: Outlaws & Legends. In its current state, there is only one game mode and it's a PvPvE setting. You won't just have to deal with A.I.-controlled units during a raid, you'll also have to contend with player-controlled heroes that have the same objective. This can be downright exhilarating for some, but for anyone who hates the prospect of player-versus-player combat, it's going to be a huge negative.

Developers are working hard on the title and considering all feedback from fans so it is possible we will see something PvE-based in the future.

7 There Is A Training Area And Map Practice

Your Hideout features some interesting and helpful tools to get you more involved in the world of Hood: Outlaws & Legends. One of the most useful areas is the Training Area, which gives you an opportunity to learn a hero and how they operate without the constant threat of enemy A.I. and other players. The current heroes all different in their playstyles, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. It's important to understand how a hero operates before tossing them into a match.

There's also a PvE Map Training Mode which will throw you into a map populated by A.I. This is the closest thing you'll get to a single-player experience in Hood but it's a great tool for learning the layouts of maps and how to approach enemies. There are no time limits, no goals, and no other players to distract you.

6 There Are Only Four Heroes

In its current state, there are only four heroes to choose from in Hood: Outlaws & Legends:

  • The Ranger - Meant to excel at stealth and long-distance combat, featuring chargeable arrows and quick-fire tactics for close-range enemies. They have a heavy disadvantage in close-quarters combat.
  • The Hunter - Utilizes stealth to get close to their enemies and then takes them down from the shadows. The Hunter has quick escape and tactical advantage thanks to smoke grenades but can be quickly overwhelmed by multiple enemies.
  • The Brawler - Works as the team's Tank, defending teammates from harm and dealing tons of damage to large groups of enemies thanks to their hammer. Because of their loud and boisterous playstyle, they're not built for stealth at all.
  • The Mystic - The Mystic is intriguing, acting almost like an amalgamation of all the other heroes. They can excel in close-quarters combat thanks to their flail and can also take down enemies from range with poison bombs. They're also capable of detecting enemies and can heal themselves and nearby allies.

5 There Is Crossplay And Cross-Progression

Although things seem a bit up-in-the-air with Hood: Outlaws & Legends at the moment, there's a good roadmap for success in place. Developers made the smart choice to create crossplay capabilities, helping to bridge the gap between console and PC players. As of writing, you're able to boot up Hood on your PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X. PC players have two choices when it comes to installing the game and can snag it from either Steam or the Epic Games Store. No matter what platform you're playing on, you'll be able to enjoy the game with players using any of those devices.

What's even better is that developers have also added cross-progression, meaning any progress you make in the game will carry over if you decided to switch platforms.

4 It Has A Battle Pass

A lot of titles are heading the Battle Pass route in 2021. Hood: Outlaws & Legends provides a good structure for a Battle Pass and their Year 1 Edition offers good value for anyone looking to stick with the title down the road. Snagging the standard edition will set you back $30 and will only give you access to the title itself. The Year 1 Edition costs $50 and includes access to the entire set of updates for the title's first year of content. You'll get instant access to three different Battle Passes, one for each proposed season, so it's definitely something to consider if you do find yourself enamored by the game and where it's headed.

3 Developers Plan On Adding A Lot Of Content

If you aren't the type of person to enjoy PvP content of any sort, you may still want to keep an eye on Hood: Outlaws and Legends. It's unclear where developers are planning on heading with the title and it is possible that we could see single-player in the future. But those out there that enjoy the PvPvE structure will be happy to know that the game's creators are planning on adding a lot of content to the title with each season.

According to game director Andrew Willans, the group is focused purely on launch and fixing some issues at the moment but fully intends on looking at new characters, maps, environments, and mechanics down the road.

2 Progression Uses Both Experience And Gold

Progression is vitally important in a game structured like Hood: Heroes & Outlaws. You'll find yourself playing a lot of the same maps over and over, learning raids and getting better at them as time progresses. It's very much progression like you would see in Overwatch or any other team-arena-like game. But Hood handles the way you get weapons and armor differently than most titles by eliminating the RNG-based Loot Boxes and replacing them with a progression system in which every player will eventually have access to the same gear.

By gaining experience and gold in heists, your chosen hero will level up. Certain level milestones will unlock new skills and abilities and others will give you access to purchasable (using the gold you gained) armors and weapons.

1 Heroes Feel Unbalanced At The Moment

Unfortunately, in its current state as of writing, Hood: Outlaws and Legends feels downright unbalanced. The main issue that most players are facing is that some heroes feel much stronger than others and certain heroes are at a specific disadvantage. It's important to look at these things from a development perspective and realize that balancing and nerfing is a necessary aspect in any PVP game. The game creators are definitely going to listen to feedback and do what they can to make the experience as fun and fair as possible for everyone, regardless of what character they choose to play.

There will likely be many patches in the future to address concerns so it's important to be aware of what you're jumping into if you decide to start your adventure now.
