Though LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been delayed, there is a lot of excitement surrounding the title. Kylo Ren, the son of Leia and Han Solo, is set to be included due to him being a major character, but there is one variant of the character that could be hilarious for players.

The toy brand has enjoyed continued success for years, and the video game adaptations of popular properties are no exception. LEGO Batman, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, and various other adaptations have proven to be very successful with gamers of all ages. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga sounds like it could be one of the biggest games in the franchise yet. Of the many characters being added, a variation of Kylo Ren could really add to the series' tongue-in-cheek humor.

The troubled character of Kylo Ren was generally well regarded throughout the sequel trilogy, despite the divisive reaction to the movies. Kylo Ren, also known as Ben Solo, is set to feature in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, thanks to his major role in the sequel trilogy. The villain-turned-hero is sure to be a favorite character for some players, but there is another side to Kylo Ren that should be included. Matt the Radar Technician, while not a canon character, should be included in the new game.
Adam Driver appeared as Kylo Ren/Matt the Radar Technician on an episode of Saturday Night Live during a sketch entitled Undercover Boss. During this skit, Adam Driver played an undercover Kylo Ren to see what his employees on Starkiller Base truly thought of him. As Matt the Radar Technician, Kylo engages in conversation with the workers of Starkiller Base and learns that he isn't a very popular boss. Eventually, Matt is outed as Kylo Ren, though this comes as a surprise to no one.
The sketch was extremely popular and spawned several Kylo Ren/Matt the Radar Technician memes. This brand of humor could fit in perfectly with the LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. The self-referential comedy could easily find a place within the new title and could create several opportunities for unique encounters. Though this would be an easter egg version of the character, some fans would undoubtedly get a kick out of seeing it included.

This wouldn't be the first time that a LEGO game included a comedy character. Conan O'Brien was in LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham due to his status as a famous name in comedy and affiliation with gaming. In the game, Conan proclaims himself as the new butler of the Batcave, and the Justice League's Watchtower. In LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Kylo Ren as Matt the Radar Technician could fulfill a similar role to that Conan O'Brien. While the developer Traveller's Tale could simply add Matt as a playable character without any special interactions, that could end up being something of a wasted opportunity.
The new LEGO Star Wars is set to feature iconic locations from every era of Star Wars. Players will reportedly be able to not only visit all of them, but also complete quests related to the location as well. Among the areas that gamers will be able to visit are places from the sequel trilogy, including Crait, Exegol, and Starkiller Base. Starkiller Base could be the perfect opportunity to bring in Matt, the Radar Technician. This would be a great chance for gamers to interact with him or play as Matt while trying to uncover his identity as Kylo Ren. This could lead to some hilarious interactions between the undercover Kylo Ren and other characters from The Skywalker Saga.
As part of The Skywalker Saga's hub areas, there are going to be dynamic events. These have been described by the developer as random events, such as the arrival of an Imperial Star Destroyer and a fleet of TIE Fighters. While players are exploring Starkiller Base, dynamic events involving Kylo Ren's Matt guise could provide some unscripted, comedic moments. These dynamic events could make play sessions unique, and adding Matt to these could make for some unexpected laugh-out-loud moments.
Matt the Radar Technician has proven to be popular among Star Wars fans. However, Matt isn't the only character played by Kylo Ren in the Undercover Boss sketches. Around the release of The Rise of Skywalker, Adam Driver reprised his role as Kylo Ren on SNL, but this time the Supreme Leader became Randy, the Intern. In his role as Randy, Kylo Ren did his best to fit in before his true identity was once again revealed. Randy would be a worthy addition to the game, as well as Matt, and could create even further opportunities for comic relief.
Though LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been delayed, fans are still excited to see how the game turns out. It will have a huge range of locations and characters for players to explore. Matt, and to a lesser extent, Randy, would be great additions to the game for the comedic value they could provide. The SNL skits which spawned the characters are very popular, especially among Star Wars fans, and could provide gamers with some unexpected but welcome laughs.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is set for release in spring, 2021, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Switch.
