Emily Blunt has often been mentioned by fans when it comes to casting Sue Storm for Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four film. However, it turns out the actress may not be eager to join a superhero franchise at all.
Marvel Studios recently made waves on social media when it dropped its Phase 4 trailer, in which it teased a slew of highly-anticipated titles that are set for release in the next couple of years. MCU newcomers like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Eternals were particularly interesting to see, as there have not been many updates on such projects as of late. However, perhaps the most exciting part of the three-minute video was at the end scene, when a split-second flash of the Fantastic Four logo was shown. After previous iterations of the comic book classic failed to impress audiences, many fans are hoping that the upcoming reboot will finally be decent.

Part of ensuring the film's success is getting the casting right. Since the project was first announced by Marvel president Kevin Feige at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, fans have run rampant with proposed castings for the iconic troupe. Mr. Fantastic and The Invisible Woman, in particular, have been the focus of these fantasy picks, with A Quiet Place actors John Krasinski and Blunt as top choices for the lead roles. While the A-list duo would be amazing as the superhero couple, it's hard to say whether or not they would actually agree to do the roles if they are ever approached by Marvel Studios. In a recent interview appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Blunt seemed to express her disinterest in playing Sue Storm and returning to the superhero genre in general. As flattered as she is by the fan castings, she noted that she has not received a phone call as of yet and that it's "just people saying, 'Wouldn't that be great?'"
It's not that superhero films are beneath her, either - Blunt said that when she was offered the role of Black Widow, she had been obsessed with Iron Man and would have loved to work with Robert Downey Jr. However, she ultimately turned it down because she felt the role was just not for her. "I don't know if superhero movies are for me," she said. "They're not up my alley. I don't like them; I really don't."
Currently, there is no confirmed casting news on the MCU's Fantastic Four reboot as of yet. However, we do know that the project is officially in the works and a release date will soon be revealed by Feige sometime next year. Hopefully, by then, pandemic conditions will improve so that fans will be able to catch the flick in cinemas.
Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four film will be helmed by director Jon Watts, who is currently hard at work on Spider-Man: No Way Home. The web slinger's next film might give the filmmaker the right experience needed for Fantastic Four, as No Way Home is rumored to feature a team-up between at least three Spider-Man actors.
