A Showcase for Total War: Warhammer 3 reveals the first full gameplay trailer of a brand new game mode and a new location for battle.

The Total War: Warhammer games have satisfied fans of both the Total War series and the Warhammer series with huge campaigns and detailed, strategic battles. With new DLC on the regular, both paid and free, including new legendary lords and factions, there's a lot to enjoy.

Now the final game of the trilogy, Total War: Warhammer 3, is confirmed and on the way (eventually). Details have been a bit scarce, but the details about Total War: Warhammer 3 that have dropped have fans very hyped. Now a new showcase has shown off the first full glimpse of battle, introducing two new factions and a new game mode.

The gameplay shows off the new mode Survival Battle in a clash between two of the game's new factions. These are the factions originally showed in the Total War: Warhammer 3 reveal trailer: Kislev and Khorne's Legions. The battle takes place in a brand new setting for the franchise: the Chaos Realm of Khorne. In the battle, the forces of Kislev traverse the border between worlds to literally bring the battle to Khorne's doorstep. The final part of the battle involves the two largest units for each army doing battle with each other to the death.

While a short gameplay trailer was released previously, this video showed a full eight minutes of gameplay, highlighting a full Survival Battle. This type of battle is longer and more intricate than a typical Total War battle, with the attacking player facing waves of enemies as they advance on sequential capture points. To help them survive, they can use resources to build defensive structures and call in new troops. Capturing each point, holding it, and successfully defeating the major enemy at the end (in this case Khorne's Gatekeeper) seem to be the keys to winning such a battle. The whole fight takes place in Khorne's realm, a new, demonic battlefield.

The trailer also showed impressive details for the art design and function of both armies revealed in Warhammer 3's announcement trailer. Kislev plays traditionally, with a strong frontline and powerful backup wizardry. Some of the army's units appear to be hybrid ranged and melee, including a unit wielding what look like axes that double as rifles.

The armies of Khorne, by contrast, are all about melee combat, with no magic and inherent magic resistance, similar to the Dwarves. This may well put them into the category of best Total War: Warhammer factions for beginners, with simple, powerful gameplay. Perhaps most enticing, the game's devs hint that the other three Chaos Gods will have their own realms and armies.

Total War: Warhammer 3 is in development for PC.
