Destiny 2 introduced the Darkness Subclass, Stasis with Beyond Light, it has been dominating Crucible ever since but more nerfs are coming.

Destiny 2 brought Guardians the Darkness Subclass, Stasis. Since its arrival in Beyond Light, Stasis has been dominating the Crucible. Bungie has given out some nerfs to different bits and pieces of Stasis, however, it has not proven to be enough for many Destiny 2 Guardians.

Destiny 2 puts a lot of emphasis on movement. Stasis directly counters that movement and is proving to be a pain point for Guardians. Stasis can both freeze and slow a Guardian in the Crucible, and neither of those mechanics are something that Destiny can balance regardless of how hard it tries.

Despite the outcry of some of the Destiny community, Stasis is here to stay, even in the Crucible. A recent tweet from Bungie Sandbox Discipline Lead Kevin Yanes may give Guardians something to look forward to regarding Stasis in the Crucible. Yanes mentions he cannot say much, but the team is actively trying adjustments to Stasis.

Kevin further mentions that they know Stasis is too hot and needs to be knocked down many pegs. This is good news for the state of the Crucible, but there is no idea when these changes will go live in Destiny 2 for Guardians to test out.

While news of Stasis nerfs is good news to many, others believe that Stasis, as a whole, being a direct counter to the movement in Destiny 2, is something that cannot be balanced because freeze and slow shut down a core focus of the Destiny 2 experience, movement.

The adjustments Bungie has in store for Stasis may be unknown, but nerfing Stasis seems to be an effort that much of the Destiny 2 community is in favor of. Being that Stasis is mostly an ability-based element, Kevin’s second half of his tweet talks about shifting the PVP gameplay more towards gunplay.

Moving PVP gameplay to a more gunplay-focused direction is an indirect nerf to most of the current Stasis options in Destiny 2, Guardians should not forget that Stasis Legendary weapons are soon coming to Destiny 2. So, while a larger focus on gunplay in PVP will counter the Stasis ability spam currently in the Crucible, that gunplay will soon include Stasis weapons outside of the current Exotic options.

Kevin’s tweet is vague but still provides a lot of information at the same time. Focusing on gunplay in the Crucible while knocking down Stasis is a great combination of adjustments to try to fix the current Stasis issue. Guardians can only hope that when Bungie rolls out nerfs to the Stasis subclass, that it also remembers the Stasis Legendary weapons, coming soon to Crucible maps all over the Sol system – even the simulated ones – but hopefully some new ones as well.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
