Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart fans now know how much space the game will take up on their consoles, with the file size being a bit surprising.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is just under a month away from its official release date, and fans are understandably excited about the game’s arrival. When Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart does go live, fans should not need to clear up too much space on their consoles.

According to the Twitter page @PlayStationSize, which keeps track of the various file sizes for the platform’s many games, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will be exactly 42.183 GB. Given that some games can go into the hundred-plus GB range, this is a welcome size for the latest Ratchet and Clank. However, given the impressive visuals of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, some fans may be a bit surprised to see the cutting-edge PS5 exclusive taking up a small amount of storage space.

However, while Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart has gone gold, fans should expect this size to increase a tiny bit on launch day. As mentioned in @PlayStationSize’s post, the game’s day one patch is not included in this size. Depending on the number of changes, bug fixes, and additions made in the patch, gamers can expect it to be anywhere from a few MB to a few GB larger. Still, it should end up in the mid-40s, giving gamers the chance to install Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart without adjusting their game lineup too much.

For comparison's sake, the file size for fellow PlayStation 5 exclusive Returnal is 56.101 GB without any updates attached. Spider-Man: Miles Morales takes up 50 GB, while Demon’s Souls’ file size sits at a bulky 66 GB. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart sits comfortably below these games in terms of its storage requirements, though it is still sizable enough to where fans should not have to fear a lack of content. With the 2016’s remake of the original Ratchet and Clank sitting at 24.5 GB, there is clearly a bit more to the 2021 release.

Pre-loads for the game will reportedly be available on June 4 as well, giving gamers the chance to download it a full week in advance. As for what can be taking up 42.183 GB, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s side activities could be playing a part, as gamers will have access to several bits of optional content. The complex rift feature sees players jumping between several unique arenas and planets, while the ray-tracing and visual fidelity surely add to the total as well. With so much seemingly squeezed into the game, the file size is certainly an impressive accomplishment.

For fans, the wait is almost over for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, with more answers about Rivet just around the corner. Thankfully, when the game does come, its 42 GB install size ensures that there should be no worries about a long install time.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart launches June 11, exclusively for PS5.
