Fans that are curious about Mass Effect Legendary Edition's Level Scaling options can learn about Legendary Mode and Classic Mode here.

As a player begins their time with Mass Effect Legendary Edition, they will be asked to confirm their preferred Level Scaling. More specifically, fans will need to select between Legendary Mode and Classic Mode, and the distinction between the two may not be entirely clear. For those players that would like a little more information about Mass Effect Legendary Edition's Level Scaling options before they pick one, that is exactly what can be found in this guide.

Before detailing how Level Scaling works in Mass Effect Legendary Edition, it is worth mentioning that it is possible to change the setting from within the Options menu. This means that RPG fans need not be too concerned when picking between Legendary Mode and Classic Mode, as the selection can be switched at any time. Additionally, a player's level will be appropriately translated when switching between modes, which makes the process quite seamless.

With that established, the primary difference between the two Level Scaling options is the frequency at which a Mass Effect player can expect to level up. Indeed, fans that go with Legendary Mode will gain levels less often than those that opt for Classic Mode, though they will not be less powerful overall. This is because gaining a level on Legendary Mode grants double the amount of Skill Points as gaining one on Classic Mode, which means that players will have the same number of points when they reach each mode's level cap (30 and 60 respectively).

As such, Classic Mode provides a more incremental leveling experience when compared to Legendary Mode, with players receiving a relatively small power increase upon level ups. While this should not prove problematic in any real way, the larger but less frequent gains that come from leveling on Legendary Mode may feel more satisfying. That said, players that want an experience that feels as close to the original release of Mass Effect as possible should absolutely feel free to pick Classic Mode.

One final thing to mention is that the level cap in Mass Effect 2 is 30, and thus Legendary Mode makes the first two titles in the series slightly more consistent with another. However, Mass Effect 3 features a maximum level of 60, and it is thus not really possible to create a fully unified leveling experience across the trilogy. As such, players should probably just select the default Level Scaling option and get busy enjoying the story of Commander Shepard.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
