Season of the Splicer has landed in Destiny 2, and all players are able to get their hands on the new Exotic Stasis Sidearm, Cryosthesia 77K, and its accompanying catalyst upgrade. The catalyst further improves the weapon by refilling its magazine whenever the user shatters a target frozen by Stasis.
The ‘Stasis Trigger’ catalyst quest tasks Destiny 2 players with completing several time-consuming but reasonably easy objectives. The Exotic Rocket Launcher Deathbringer also received an Exotic Catalyst that players can easily obtain simply by playing playlist activities.

Any Destiny 2 player can complete this Exotic Catalyst quest so long as they already own Cryosthesia 77K. Owners of the premium Season of the Splicer Season Pass instantly unlock the weapon, but any players that are just working through the free Season Pass rewards will have to reach level 35 to get the Sidearm.
After acquiring Cryosthesia 77K, players need to speak to Banshee-44, the gunsmith vendor found in the Tower, to get the exotic catalyst quest. The quest only has three steps with the final one just getting players to speak to Banshee to collect the catalyst so that they can begin working through the objective to fully upgrade it.
Step one has three very simple objectives to complete:
- Get 75 precision final blows
- Defeat 50 Guardians
- Defeat 100 combatants
All three objectives can also be completed with any weapons, so players do not need to be using Cryosthesia 77K or even a Sidearm to get step one finished. The combatant kills and precision final blows can be easily completed in just a couple of normal Strike missions. Using precision primary weapons such as Scout Rifles and Hand Cannons will help with completing these objectives at the same time.
Players should definitely head into the Crucible to get the 50 Guardian defeats. This objective can be done in a few Crucible Control matches which should be enough to also get a Pinnacle reward from the weekly Crucible challenge. Once all three objectives have been completed, players will progress to step two.
These next three objectives do require players to be using Cryosthesia 77K
- 200 Calibration data generated
- 50 Guardians defeated with Cryosthesia 77K
- 100 Combatants defeated with Cryosthesia 77K
Once calibration data is generated for every Strike, Nightfall Strike, Gambit match, and Crucible match completed. Players can earn two data for completing a Nightfall Strike on Legend difficulty or higher and for winning Crucible or Gambit matches. This is by far the longest objective of the entire quest, but it can be completed significantly faster once players have unlocked the Catalyst Quest Boost Alpha and Omega perks on the Season Pass at levels 11 and 22 respectively. Once players have unlocked the Omega perk, quest progress for all objectives quadruples, which cuts each requirement down to a quarter of their original values.
Going through Strikes, or even the new Override seasonal activity, with Cryosthesia 77K is an easy method for getting the 100 combatant kills. As for the Guardian kills, players will obviously need to go into the Crucible but should wait until they have at least unlocked Catalyst Quest Boost Alpha to halve the required defeats to 25. In the right hands, Cryosthesia can hold its own in Crucible matches but Stasis subclass abilities still cause many issues for Destiny 2 players.
Once step two has been completed, players need to return to Banshee-44 in the Tower to collect the exotic catalyst for the final step. While players now have the Exotic Catalyst for Cryosthesia 77K, they still need to get 700 kills with the weapon to upgrade the catalyst. Players will need to go through any PvE activities to get these kills, but one method for quickly upgrading any catalyst is to head to the Thrallway in the Shattered Throne Dungeon as Shadow Thrall spawn infinitely. However, this objective is currently bugged and the Destiny 2 community has found that it can be completed with any energy weapon while players have the Exotic Sidearm equipped.
Once upgraded, players can fully reload their Cryosthesia 77K by shattering any frozen enemies, which massively helps with the fact that firing its charged Stasis shot fully consumes all bullets left in the magazine. The weapon will also be fully masterworked and will be able to generate Orbs of Power on multikills.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light and the new Season of the Splicer are available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
