Subnautica: Below Zero players will need Creepvine Samples to make Fiber Mesh, a resource used in a variety of important crafting recipes.

When new players start Subnautica: Below Zero, they are likely to be a bit overwhelmed at first. The beginning area is brimming with life and resources, and it can be difficult to know what everything is and what it's all for. Players that inspect the fabricator may notice that with Creepvine Samples, they can fabricate an item called Fiber Mesh. This in turn is used for crafting a ton of useful items, not the least of which is an oxygen tank that increases the amount of time that players can spend underwater. Unfortunately, it isn't immediately clear how to harvest Creepvine Samples.

While some things in Subnautica: Below Zero can be harvested as soon as the game starts, other items require certain tools to harvest. Players might be able to catch fish simply by swimming up to them, but getting Creepvine Sample is a little more complicated than that.

In order to harvest Creepvine Samples, players first need to fabricate a Survival Knife. This has a few ingredients, but it's actually rather easy to obtain. Creepvine Seed Clusters can be found on Creepvine plants, but these don't require any tools to harvest. Look up and down the plant to find a segment of bulbous, red material. Approach these and harvest them in the same way that players would collect any other resource. These do take up quite a bit of inventory space, but take them back to the Fabricator and players can craft them into a Silicone Rubber.

With the Silicone Rubber in tow, players will now need to find a piece of Titanium. This is a very common resource that can be found right at the beginning of the game. Players should search various outcrops of metal in the area in order to find Titanium. Finally, by combining one Titanium and one Silicone Rubber, players can craft a Survival Knife. This will be a very useful tool moving forward and it's a good idea to always have one on hand.

The survival knife can now be used on Creepvine Plants to collect Creepvine Samples. It is also useful for collecting sample of other items, and can even be used as a weapon (though it's not recommended for use against Subnautica: Below Zero's deadlier monsters). Should players get their Survival Knife stolen and find themselves unable to recover it, they can always make another one using the same resources back at the Fabricator. It's important to note that, although Creepvine Samples decay, this only affects how much food and water they offer the player when eaten. Creepvine Samples can be used to craft even when they are fully decayed.

Subnautica: Below Zero is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
