BioWare made substantial changes to the Mass Effect series with the Legendary Edition, including fixing a big controversy from Mass Effect 3.

After countless rumors and leaks, BioWare made a lot of fans very happy when it finally confirmed that Mass Effect was getting the remastered treatment. This week finally saw the Mass Effect Legendary Edition launch in full, letting fans both new and old not only experience the trilogy once again, but also check out all of the various changes that BioWare made to each of the games.

While some of the more obvious changes were made to the visuals, improving things like textures, shaders, models, effects, and more across all three games. However, fans will likely notice that the most extensive changes were made to the first and oldest game in the trilogy, Mass Effect. BioWare made significant improvements to the Mako vehicle, combat was also updated to feel more like the sequel games, and plenty more. Overall, fans will likely see tons of improvements and changes as they play, including one update that fixes one of the more controversial elements of Mass Effect 3.

While the Mass Effect series is known for its diverse and unique companions that accompany Commander Shepard throughout their journey, the Quarian known as Tali'Zorah is likely high on most player's list of favorites. Part of that popularity likely comes from the fact her nomadic race is confined to full body environmental suits that conceal their appearance. For players who opted to romance Tali throughout the series, a photo of her without her helmet on was gifted to players towards the end of Mass Effect 3.

However, this reveal was met poorly with fans as the image in question was based off of the Photoshop of a human stock photo model. With the Legendary Edition, BioWare went back and fixed the controversial photo, which was seen and shared by Reddit user Maxgoods, who downloaded a Mass Effect 3 save game file with Tali set up as the romance option. The photo now shows Tali in her default outfit, but with the visor of her mask removed, revealing white eyes and a more human-like complexion than many likely anticipated.

While fans continue to discover various updates and changes not previously reported by BioWare, such as how much better the Sniper Rifle feels in the original Mass Effect, one thing that was specifically left alone was the controversial ending. While not well received by players initially, BioWare released an Extended Cut DLC to elaborate and add additional options. With Mass Effect Legendary Edition, directors Mac Walters and Kevin Meek are hoping that after 9 years and some time away, people can reassess how they feel after experiencing it once again. They're hoping that the ending will hit people differently now, especially since players can go through the trilogy as one arc now.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition releases on May 14 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
