The Abyssal Scar biome is the sixth and final biome in Returnal. However, even though this biome is the last one before the credits roll, it's not the end of the game itself. Once the player gets through this level, they can jump back into the game again and unlock the game's secret ending, should they wish to do so.

Before that, though, players must first worry about surviving the Abyssal Scar biome. As the last biome in the game, the player should expect extremely extremely punishing challenges and powerful enemies. At the end of the biome, the player will face the final boss of the game, which presents a challenge of its own. To survive this trial, here are a few tips for the Abyssal Scar biome.
8 Watch Out For New Enemies
Players will face a handful of enemies in the Abyssal Scar biome that they have not encountered before. Here, the enemies don't spawn as often as in the previous biome. However, whenever they do, the player will need to use all the skills they have gathered.
There's an enemy type in this biome called Archonact. Wherever they spawn, a handful of smaller Anomos spawn as well. The Archonacts have pink attacks that won't only damage the player, but will also give them a random malfunction.
7 Mind Every Step
The level design of the Abyssal Scar biome is unique compared to the rest of the areas in the game. First of all, this biome is set underwater. This area will require the player to jump around between platforms in order to proceed. If they're not careful, they can easily fall down to the pits below.
Falling in Returnal won't necessarily kill the player. However, it will scratch off their health, which they don't want to lose if they want to maintain their cycle. The player should make sure they always mind their ground when traversing this biome. Be ready to dash or grapple to reach a platform, should the player fall short with their jumps.
6 Find The Delphic Visor
The Delphic Visor is a permanent upgrade the player can pick up in the Abyssal Scar biome. It will allow the player to see orbs, which they can then shoot to create platforms. Without this permanent upgrade, the player won't be able to cross the long gap.

This upgrade can be found at the bottom of a chasm near the gap. It's protected by some tough enemies, so the player needs to be prepared for a fight before they can set out to earn this upgrade.
5 Pick Up Obolites Quickly
For some reason, the Obolites in the Abyssal Scar fade away much quicker than they do in the other biomes. With this in mind, the player should make sure to pick them up as soon as an enemy drops them.
While doing this, if there are still other enemies around, the player needs to be extra mindful. They should just make sure they won't let the Obolites go to waste, in case they encounter a room that contains fabricators or a reconstructor.
4 Use A Long-Ranged Gun
Long-ranged guns are the most useful weapons in this biome. This is because enemies can spawn from afar, and will be able to hit the player from afar. Players will need a weapon that can also hit the enemies at a great distance.

The melee weapon also isn't as handy in this biome. Unless they're overcoming an obstacle, players might want to do away with the melee weapon for now.
3 Purchase An Astronaut Figurine
Astronaut Figurines are artifacts that, if in the player's inventory, will resurrect them and give them a "second life" when their health drops to zero. This artifact is one of the most useful items in the game, and the player should make sure that they have it in their inventory.
The player can purchase an Astronaut Figurine in the Central Hub before diving deep into the Abyssal Scar. They can also purchase them from any fabricators that randomly spawn in the biome.
2 Use The Reconstructor In The Hub
The central hub just before the Abyssal Scar biome contains a reconstructor the player can use. However, the player should skip it for now. The reconstructor they should use is the one that spawns in the biome itself.
True to the game's rogue-like nature, the rooms in the Abyssal Scar generate randomly, as with every single room in the game. This means there is no clear-cut way to the reconstructor. However, players are bound to happen upon it while exploring the biome. They're better off spending their six Ethers here, rather than using them on the reconstructor on the prior level.
1 Dealing With Ophion
Once the player picks up the Abyssal Key, they can head to the boss room. Here, they'll face Ophion, the last boss in Returnal. Firstly, the player should pat themselves on the back for getting this far. Second, they need to prepare for the fight ahead.
Ophion is an octopus-like creature that looks like it's been grabbed right out of an H.P. Lovecraft story. This monster will slam its tentacles to the ground, emitting purple rings. The player can't dash through these, so the only way to avoid damage is by jumping over them. Still, the boss has a couple of weak points that players can exploit. These are revealed by the floating orbs, which the player can light up.
