Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor finally confirmed a claim that he once had a lightsaber duel with Noel Gallagher of the '90s band Oasis.

There are a number of ways to begin talking about something like this, but really, there's not much else to say that can enhance the already wonderful facts. Ewan McGregor, known as Roman Sionis/Black Mask in the eternally underrated Birds of Prey and even more well known as Star Wars hero Obi-Wan Kenobi in the hearts of everyone, has actually had a lightsaber fight with Noel Gallagher, the guitarist from the band Oasis. That's it. That's the story.

Oh, right, details would be helpful. Well, a long time ago, at a birthday party far, far away, an epic battle took place between two next-door neighbors. It turns out that, at the time when McGregor found out he'd been cast as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels, he and Gallagher lived close enough to each other that the former attended the latter's 30th birthday party. It was at this birthday party that a fateful encounter took place, and it took until now for the public to know the truth, thanks to a Jimmy Kimmel Live! interview, of all things.

In the past, Gallagher had been claiming that he'd had a lightsaber fight with McGregor at some point and actually instructed the newly appointed Jedi on how to use the weapons, but there was no evidence of the event and no confirmation from McGregor himself. Plus, there was no mention of which of the iconic Star Wars lightsabers each combatant used. That's not to say that it's all that unbelievable, but the idea of a Star Wars star clashing with the guitarist from one of the most '90s-est of '90s bands using lightsabers as their weapons of choice is something that deserves to be proven. Luckily, a recent interview between Kimmel and McGregor finally set the record straight.

"Well, it was Noel Gallagher's 30th birthday party and he lived quite close to me in London, north London,” McGregor answered when Kimmel probed him about Gallagher's claim, “and I was at his party and then there was a lightsaber fight in his garden very early the next day in the morning." That alone is more than enough to earn a few squeals of delight from fans of both duelists (even if they weren't using real lightsabers like Disney World, but McGregor went one step further and debunked part of the story, saying "But I don't remember too much instruction. I don't remember any lessons being given by Noel. It was just more of a battle in the garden."

There it is, finally another side to the story. Of course, it might take some wind out of the sails of anyone hoping to hear that a famous guitar player had, in fact, taught Obi-Wan Kenobi how to fight. But that's just a minor detail. Besides, McGregor went on to clarify that he doesn't remember who won the duel and doubts Gallagher does either. So perhaps that little memory fart could give a little hope that the rest of the story is still true.

Whatever happened, this is just a lovely, heartwarming piece of information that fans of both gentlemen deserve to hear. Look, it's been a rough year for everybody. There's nothing wrong with a little pick-me-up. For some, that might be seeing Scott Pilgrim vs. The World in theaters once again. For others, maybe it's learning that a rock star taught Obi-Wan how to live his best life.

The Star Wars saga is now available on Disney Plus.
