With all the different possibilities on Twitch, there are plenty of ways for creators to make it big on the platform, even with niche audiences. One of these fairly new methods, the hot tub streams, has found a shocking amount of success.
However, there has also been a huge amount of controversy surrounding the hot tub streams. Whether it be that creators are being banned, inappropriate sexist comments by viewers, or issues of minors viewing this type of suggestive content.

And while toxicity on Twitch is nothing new for the platform, it seems that the company is taking a surprising stance and ignoring the problem. Twitch has blocked the word "hot tub" from being used on their official channel, as reported by some users.
The reports started when a Reddit user by the name of JitterOS shared a screenshot of a message they got when they tried posting the phrase "hot tub streamers" during the May 14th Public Access Broadcast. In the message, it stated that due to the conflicts with Twitch's moderation settings, they were unable to post the comment in the chat. Luckily, JitterOS was not banned from the channel itself; the message only indicated that it was just the phrase.
Many other Reddit users took to the comments to issue their criticism of Twitch for seemingly blocking any discussion of the topic on a stream specifically meant for the public. They claimed that Twitch was just taking the easy way out and avoiding the much needed debate. Since the post has been made, many users have claimed that the pop-up message does not come up anymore when they use the phrase in Twitch's chat. This either indicates that Twitch saw the post and quickly made the adjustment, or it was only a temporary ban on the phrase for that specific broadcast.
The public's stance on hot tub Streams is fairly evenly split down the middle. Many do claim that these types of streams do not actually break any of Twitch's guidelines and that Twitch allows bathing suits to be worn in the appropriate environment. While some claim it is the parent's job to monitor their kid's internet usage, some say that Twitch just needs to be more transparent about what sort of content is okay to post on the website. Whatever the case may be, hopefully, Twitch is able to reach a middle ground on the situation that proves beneficial to everyone.
