The Fallout 76 community is coming together once again to help raise money for charity, this time with an in-game music festival.

Fallout For Hope is a charity event during which the Fallout 76 community comes together to raise money for important causes. A number of content creators host charity Twitch streams with different themes, some with tournaments and even giveaways, in the hopes of raising funds to help others.

It began in December 2020, when a man named Kenny, who runs a Fallout 76 podcast called “Chad: A Fallout 76 Story,” decided to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital that Christmas. The idea took off and Kenny was soon joined by St. Jude PLAY LIVE, a video game charity platform dedicated to supporting the hospital. When the weeklong event ended on December 20, over 300 content creators, including some Bethesda employees, had taken part and helped raise over $100,000.

This year, from May 24 to May 31, Fallout For Hope will again bring content creators and Fallout 76 community members together, this time with a superstream called Fallopalooza, an in-game music festival. The goal is to raise funds for the American Heart Association and help plant trees in America’s inner cities. Fallout 76 players who are also musicians will perform in custom-built concert halls within the game, and so far over 100 streamers have signed on to participate.

According to the American Heart Association, living in green spaces — areas with trees, shrubs, and grasses — improves air quality and may lower the number of deaths related to heart disease and stroke, which are the first and second leading causes of death worldwide, respectively. Preserving forests or replanting trees in areas that have been stripped of them, namely heavily populated areas like inner cities, could be a start in improving quality of life and preventing cardiovascular disease and related disabilities.

A recent study by the University of Miami focused specifically on heart health and discovered that, of 250,000 elderly people studied, those living in the greenest neighborhoods of Miami-Dade County were 25 percent less likely to have a heart attack than those living in the least green neighborhoods.

The Fallout For Hope community also previously came together in February 2021 to help the millions of people in Texas affected by the deep freeze that swept the state, depriving inhabitants of gas and electricity. Ultimately, FEMA has assisted approximately one in eight Texans negatively impacted by the disaster. It seems that Fallout For Hope, which started as a one-time charity event, may become an initiative that regularly brings gamers together to help when and where it’s needed.

Fallout 76 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
