Ubisoft Montreal creative director Leroy Athanassoff and other Rainbow Six Siege developers comment on one fan's proposed rework for Finka.

As with many live-service games on the market, Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege has remained popular since it launched in 2015 thanks to a steady stream of new content or operators, such as Operation Crimson Heist's Flores, and balance updates. However, fans have also imagined their own preferred character adjustments, and one recent video caught the attention of Ubisoft Montreal creative director Leroy Athanassoff.

The video in question comes from Twitter user zMin, who advertises themselves on the social media site alongside YouTube and Patreon as a fan working on digital art, rework concepts for characters and maps, as well as "occasional memes" for Rainbow Six Siege. They debuted a rework concept for Finka, first introduced by Rainbow Six Siege's Operation Chimera in 2018, on YouTube this Thursday.

Finka is an offensive operator who uses nanobots in combat. Much of her kit is support-focused, so zMin made some alterations to turn her into "a true support operator healing her team, disabl[ing] defender utility, and protecting the defuser planer" by making her gadget a throwable canister which creates a cloud of nanobots that buffs allies and disables electronics. Athanassoff responded to this rework on Twitter saying, "I'm a big fan."

After working as the game director on Rainbow Six Siege from July 2017 to May 2020, Athanassoff became a full-time creative director at Ubisoft Montreal - a studio with its hands in many of the company's most popular franchises including Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Watch Dogs. He was not the only one to voice his intrigue after the video was uploaded, as game designer Emilien Lomet also commented on the work to let fans know they should "be more like zMin" with regards to outlining potential game design solutions.

With the upcoming release of Rainbow Six Quarantine, many fans have wondered which operators will return from Rainbow Six Siege. Finka is certainly one sensible attacker option alongside fan-favorites such as Ash, and with the attention garnered by zMin's video on social media it isn't entirely farfetched that Ubisoft developers could take on some of their proposed changes for the next game.

Even if they do not, it's still good to see major game developers take in and discuss their community's content. Ubisoft's Tom Clancy games, and the Rainbow Six series in particular, have been popular titles for some time. However, a number of classic Rainbow Six games will have online services shut down this year to make room for future entries.

Rainbow Six Siege is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
