The Trials of Osiris have become a focal point in Destiny 2 after the Beyond Light expansion. The highly competitive mode has taken over the PVP scene since it was re-introduced in 2020. Because Destiny has entered its fourth year, there are more skilled Destiny 2 players than ever.
Competing in the Trials of Osiris is exhilarating and challenging but it takes a solid team, great communication, and most importantly, amazing gear, to reach the top. Players will find themselves grinding for weeks just to snag a particular weapon roll or exotic to ensure that they can compete on equal ground with other Guardians.
Updated May 16th, 2021 By Payton Lott: In order to have any chance of going flawless, guardians must use meta weapons and gear in Trials. While hand cannons are more popular at the moment, auto rifles still have a role in PVP. It can be hard to sift through all of the options, as there are more than 60 exotic and legendary auto rifles in Destiny 2. Of the options, there are ten auto rifles that stand out in PVP. This guide will cover everything players need to know about all ten.

11 Tommy's Matchbook
The first auto rifle in this list is an exotic 720 RPM auto rifle named Tommy's Matchbook. It is a Season Pass reward for those that have the pass activated. This gun is a fast-firing non-kinetic rifle with moderate recoil. It would be difficult to find a gun that is more straightforward to use in Destiny 2. Despite its moderate damage output, the weapon makes up for DPS with its intrinsic trait and accuracy. The intrinsic trait of the gun increases damage if the gun overheats, but it will deal a small amount of damage to the user. In average skilled lobbies, the weapon is consistent and surprisingly effective with the additional overheat damage.

10 Gaillard-42
The Galliard has one of the fastest times to kill of any energy auto rifle. Similar to Gnawing Hunger, the Galliard is a versatile auto rifle that can be used in almost every scenario in PVP. Guardians will also be able to equip longer range scopes for improved accuracy and control. The perk rolls for the weapon are great as well. The best perks for the rifle are dynamic sway reduction to eliminate idle sway and kill clip for increased damage after every kill.

9 Seventh Seraph Carbine
The Seventh Seraph has a niche long-range role in PVP. It has a slow fire rate and modest damage, but the range on the weapon allows it to compete with some of the 120 RPM hand cannons at range. Because of how dominant hand cannons are this year, the gun will lose to elite players that can hit headshots. In most lobbies, the Seventh Seraph is a very solid option. Precision aim and the lack of any recognizable recoil makes hitting headshots easy.

8 False Promises
False Promises is one of the heaviest hitting assault rifles with 33 impact. The weapon's default zoom of 20 and a 75 meter range make it one of the top long range weapons to use in PVP. Guardians will want to get the weapon with hammer forged rifling, ricochet rounds, dynamic sway reduction, and rampage. Even without the above god roll perks, the weapon is a strong option for players that enjoy fighting from range.

- Stability: 25
- Handling: 42
- Reload Speed: 44
- RPM: 360
- Magazine: 32

7 The Last Breath
The Last Breath is a poor man's Forward path, with the standard 600 RPM impact and 48 range. The gun has very similar stats to the Forward Path, although it has slightly less range and handling. Those that do not have one of the better 600 RPM auto rifles will be just fine with the Last Breath. The weapon is let down by a limited number of rolls and recoil, but it is a viable option nonetheless.
- Impact: 21
- Range: 48
- Stability: 49
- Handling: 70
- Reload Speed: 56
- RPM: 600
- Magazine: 43
- Aim Assist: 67

6 Steelfeather Repeater
Players that like to fight in close quarters will enjoy using the Steelfeather repeater. It is a 720 RPM auto rifle with decent recoil control and a large magazine. The gun has very good aim assist stats to help those on controller hit their shots. The 720 RPM auto rifles are finally usable this year, and the Steelfeather repeater is one of the most entertaining to use. While it does not impress in any particular category, the weapon will compete with other top auto rifles at close to medium range.

- Stability: 38
- Handling: 44
- Reload Speed: 55
- RPM: 720
- Magazine: 49

5 Gnawing Hunger
Gnawing Hunger is one of the most used auto rifles in Destiny 2. It has a competitive TTK at .8 seconds and well rounded stats throughout. The auto rifle is incredibly balanced, easy to use, and has very good perk options. The best rolls for the weapon will include the kill clip perk, which will bring the gun's TTK down to .6 after getting a kill and reloading.
- Impact: 21
- Range: 53
- Stability: 49
- Handling: 67
- Reload Speed: 61
- RPM: 600
- Magazine: 43
- Aim Assist: 65

4 Arctic Haze
The rapid-fire assault rifle has the same damage values as Gnawing Hunger did prior to Beyond Light. It will take out enemies quickly at close range and is the best 720 rpm option in the game right now. Unlike many of the other non-kinetic rifles, the Arctic haze has the necessary damage values to win fights at extended ranges. Guardians can pick up the gun from one of Variks' quests on Europa. This weapon is the only readily available non-kinetic auto rifle good enough to use in Trials.
- Impact: 18
- Range: 32
- Stability: 53
- Handling: 48
- Reload Speed: 53
- RPM: 720
- Magazine: 51
- Aim Assist: 75
- Recoil: 42
3 Suros Regime
The best auto rifles in Destiny 2 have the triple threat of good handling, reload speed, and aim assist. Suros' spinning up perk will increase the fire rate of the weapon as the clip begins to empty. Players may look at its base stats and assume that it is not viable. However, once the weapon exceeds 600 rpm, it will destroy armor as quick as any weapon in the game.
Players also have the option of using the dual speed receiver, which will slow the weapon's rate of fire and increase its damage. The weapon's perks allow it excel at close range with spinning up and dominate at long range with dual speed receiver. The intrinsic trait of the weapon makes the bottom half of each magazine deal even more damage. Suros Regime is a force to be reckoned in all PVP modes.
- Impact: 21
- Range: 50
- Stability: 49
- Handling: 68
- Reload Speed: 67
- RPM: 600
- Magazine: 25
- Aim Assist: 68
- Recoil: 50
2 The Forward Path
While it sounds like a toy gun, the Forward Path is one of the better auto rifles in the game. Even though it is one of the nerfed 600rpm rifles, it is consistent, stable, and has the range to be competitive in Trials. The gun will not have an insane TTK like many of the hand cannons, but it will be more forgiving when missing shots. The Forward Path is also one of the most aesthetically pleasing auto rifles in the game.
- Impact: 21
- Range: 50
- Stability: 48
- Handling: 72
- Reload Speed: 64
- RPM: 600
- Magazine: 43
- Aim Assist: 71
- Recoil: 60
1 The Summoner
The Trials of Osiris exclusive weapon is the best auto rifle in Destiny 2. The base weapon is good enough, but a three times rampage Summoner will have a blisteringly quick .5 TTK. Guardians should try to get a gun that has both Zen Moment and Rampage. Zen moment will improve recoil control as players hit shots, which is deadly when combined with the effects of rampage. The Summoner also has great handling, reload speed, and aim assistance.
- Impact: 21
- Range: 46
- Stability: 47
- Handling: 73
- Reload Speed: 60
- RPM: 600
- Magazine: 42
- Aim Assist: 62
