World of Warcraft Classic is difficult to get around in, but this guide is designed to help any race get to Desolace for some much needed gold.

In World of Warcraft, Desolace has been a favorite, hard-to-find location for grinding tons of WoW gold. While players could spend hours staring at the old Kalimdor maps trying to remember how to get there, finding the way can be difficult with those old Classic maps.

Updated May 14, 2021 by Mina Smith: As The Burning Crusade Classic inches closer to pre-patch day, players may be looking to level new characters in the world of Classic. With that in mind, updating this article for clarity, details, and more information was necessary. Hopefully, this guide will be helpful for anyone new to Classic or new to TBC as it gets ready to go live.

Desolace is a neutral land on the western coast of Kalimdor. The region is inhabited mostly by barren wastelands, vicious tribes of centaurs, and some amazing loot. This contested land holds smaller settlements of both horde and alliance races. It's a 30-40 level zone that isn't held by either faction, which makes a fertile breeding ground for PvP. While there's little in the way of landscaping, there's a lot to do here, including visiting the holy caverns of Maraudon or the Thunder Axe Fortress. But to do any of that, players will have to get there first.

In Cataclysm, one of the many expansions of WoW, Blizzard added boats that sail out from Stormwind to help players get around a little easier. In Vanilla Classic and the upcoming Burning Crusade Classic, players won't have access to these routes, so getting around will take a little bit longer. Here's some World of Warcraft Classic tips on how to get any character to this hotly contested zone.

Night Elves: Depending on how far World of Warcraft Elves are in their leveling, they may still be around Asheville or Stonetalon Mountains when they are ready to take the plunge into Desolace. Just head south down through Charred Veil in the southwestern part of Stonetalon. Desolace is immediately south of Charred Vale.

Gnomes and Dwarves: Head to Ironforge. Walk out of Ironforge and head east then north to the Wetlands. Continue following the road to the western edge of the Wetlands to find Menethil Harbor. In Menethil Harbor, take the northern of the two boats to Auberdine in Darkshore. From there, follow the same route as Night Elves south to Charred Vale in Stonetalon.

Humans: Once Humans have found their way to Stormwind, head for the Dwarven District. Take the Deeprun Tram to Ironforge, then follow the Gnomes and Dwarven directions.

Horde: All Horde races have pretty much the same path they will need to follow. The Undercity Zeppelin will take players right to Origimmar from wherever their journey started. After that, follow the road south and then west into the Barrens. In the northwest, the Stonetalon Mountains await. Then, follow the northwest road that connects to the southwest path heading to Charred Vale. There's a little road in the southwest corner of Charred Vale that ends right at the beginning of Desolace. As this is all either Alliance or contested territories players will be walking through, make sure that any Horde characters are the right class for WoW PvP.
