Marvel is now on the hunt for the right filmmaker to bring vampire hunter Blade into the MCU.

Among the endless exciting projects coming up in the MCU, Blade is at the top of many fans' must-see lists. While the Wesley Snipes franchise is still beloved by many, the prospect of Mahershala Ali stepping into the role of the badass vampire hunter is undoubtedly exciting.

There has not been much news on the movie since it was first announced aside from Watchmen's Stacy Osei-Kuffour signing on to write the movie. But with rumors of it gearing up for production, the next big question is who will direct. Word has it that Marvel is looking for a Black director and there are a number of interesting and exciting choices who could bring this amazing character into the MCU.

Ever since his stunning and ground-breaking directorial debut with Get Out, Jordan Peele has been one of the most talked-about filmmakers in Hollywood. Even though his follow-up movie Us didn't have quite the same impact, it is a brilliant horror movie that seems destined to become a classic someday. Peele is currently prepping his third original movie, starring Steven Yeun and Daniel Kaluuya, but there have been countless properties floated around that would benefit from his talents.

Looking at Peele's work and what he could bring to a Blade movie, it's hard not to get carried away with excitement. Despite his background in sketch comedy, Peele has shown an immense talent for crafting original, thought-provoking, and engrossing horror movies. A character like Blade could allow the MCU to venture further into the horror realm which they seem to be exploring in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Peele would certainly infuse the supernatural comic book movie with interesting horror elements that go beyond a few cheap jump-scares. Peele also crafts what he likes to call "social thrillers" with his movies exploring ideas of race and class systems within a genre story. With the MCU seeming to take more risks with the commentary of their movies, Peele could add that quality to Blade's story as well.

F. Gary Gray has the longest careers as a director out of all the filmmakers on this list. His directorial journey goes all the way back to 1995's Friday, starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. Since then he has directed countless big movies that show an impressive versatility. Some of his notable successes include The Italian Job and The Fate of the Furious both of which prove he can handle those big and exciting action sequences that are so important in the MCU. However, the movie on Gray's filmography that really shows his talent is Straight Outta Compton. In this tale of the rise of influential rap group N.W.A, Gray took what was a fairly typical musical biopic story and infused it with so much fun and energy. The concert scenes, in particular, feel like action sequences with the thrills they deliver.

It's true that looking at Gray's career, there are so noticeable duds, including his latest movie, Men in Black: International. He also may not have as unique of a vision as some of the other filmmakers on this list. However, there is plenty of evidence that Gray really knows how to deliver a fun, crowd-pleasing movie.

Thanks to the incredible Oscar-nominated movie Judas and the Black Messiah, Shaka King has been hailed as one of the best up-and-coming filmmakers in Hollywood. There will no doubt be a lot of projects hoping to sign him to direct, but it's very easy to see why Blade would be such an ideal project for him. In Judas and the Black Messiah, King clearly drew inspiration from movies of the 1970s to create a gritty and real period movie.

It would be interesting to see King bring that same aesthetic to a Blade movie, giving it a much different feel than other movies in the MCU. He also knows how to play those smaller moments within the bigger story. With a two-time Oscar-winning actor like Ali in the role of Blade, the movie is going to want to use his considerable acting talents and explore the character in some ways the other movies haven't. King could be the director to really flesh the character out.

With all the supernatural aspects surrounding the character, Marvel could really embrace the weirdness of Blade and go wild with this movie. If that is the direction they want to go in, Boots Riley is a great choice to direct. Though some may know him best as a member of the rap group The Coup, Riley proved his filmmaking talents with the inventive, hilarious, and outrageous comedy Sorry to Bother You.

Riley feels like the kind of filmmaker who can bring something totally unexpected to a big tentpole movie like this. Much like how James Gunn came from the indie world and infused the Guardian of the Galaxy with his irreverent sense of humor, Riley could bring a fresh new energy to the cinematic universe and turn Blade into one of the most interesting heroes in the MCU.

Gina Prince-Bythewood feels like she is not only a perfect fit for a movie like Blade but also the one who is most likely to land the job. She is an up-and-coming director which is something the MCU is often drawn to and she has already proven herself to be a great action director in another comic book adaptation. Prince-Bythewood directed the surprise Netflix hit The Old Guard starring Charlize Theron and there is really no better example of what Prince-Bythewood can bring to a Blade movie. The Old Guard dealt with supernatural heroes and featured many great fight sequences with swords and other medieval weapons. Prince-Bythewood showed skill with building rich mythology within a fun popcorn movie. There is no doubt she would deliver an action-packed and exciting take on Blade.

Blade is a character with so much potential and with an actor of Ali's stature playing the role, it feels like he could become one of the biggest names in the MCU. Finding the right director to tell this story and bring a unique take on the character is essential and these five talented filmmakers are certainly capable. While there are likely other great directors out there who could deliver, if any of these five do get the job, fans can rest assured Blade is in good hands.
