The Cerberus+1 is an entertaining and unique exotic in Destiny 2 that features an obtainable catalyst. Here's how to get it and what it does.

The Cerberus+1 is a divisive gun in the Destiny 2 fanbase. For some players, it’s a lot of fun and works really well in PVE or Crucible. For others, it's an inconsistent nightmare that’s frustrating to wield. In reality, it’s probably not the best gun, but with the right play style, it will certainly do a lot of damage.

If you find yourself drawn to this weapon and using it a lot, it’s highly recommended you chase down the Cerebrus+1 Catalyst. It can make the weapon more of a beast in close quarters at the cost of long-range potential. Here’s everything you need to know about the Cerebrus+1 Catalyst and where to get it.

The Cerebrus+1 Catalyst introduces a new perk to the Cerebrus+1

  • Focused Fire – Holding reload swaps firing modes to have a narrower, close-range spread.

For some players, this might not be worth it as those stray shots from a wider spread help with accuracy, and a shorter range forces players to engage in close quarters. This can be a problem for players accustomed to fighting at range.

On the other hand, a tighter spread means more rounds strike the target, which can raise DPS. This makes it a solid weapon against larger targets or anything that uses shields. Some players find that it makes it ideal for taking down Titans and their shields.

To get the Cerebrus+1 Catalyst, players need to defeat any non-Guardian enemy located anywhere in the system. It doesn’t matter if it’s part of an event, so long as the enemy isn’t a Guardian.

The odds of the Cerebrus+1 Catalyst dropping from an enemy is rare so players should expect quite the grind before getting it. There doesn’t seem to be any way of improving drop rates. The best thing to do is grind out weaker PVE enemies as quickly as possible.

Once it does finally drop, players will want to quickly upgrade it to get the full benefit of the Cerebrus+1 Catalyst. To do this, players will need to kill 500 enemies using the Cerebrus+1. They can be any non-Guardian or Guardian enemy.

It’s important to note that these kills can be achieved retroactively. If the player amassed any kills with the Cerebrus+1 prior to obtaining the Catalyst, they’ll count towards the 500. This can go a long way to cutting down on overall grind time.

Obtaining and upgrading the Cerebrus+1 Catalyst isn’t terribly complicated, but it can certainly take a while. This is especially true if the player has a number of Catalysts to obtain as they can appear before the Cerebrus+1 does. One way to minimize this problem is to avoid trigger conditions for other Catalysts.

For instance, the Black Talon Catalyst requires a Strike, Gambit, or Crucible to drop. Avoiding those events prevents the Black Talon from taking the Cerebrus+1’s place in the drop tables. That being said, players could intentionally choose to run a Strike in the hopes of getting other Catalyst while grinding for the Cerebrus+1. It might take longer for the Cerebrus+1, but it cuts down on how long it takes to round out the overall collection.
