While the Mass Effect series was beloved by fans as it detailed Commander Shepard's struggle against the Reapers, it wasn't perfect. Most notably, the third game in the series was criticized for its ending sequence, with fan complaints getting so loud that BioWare actually releasing an Extended Cut DLC focused on adjusting the ending. The series also featured a number of smaller issues that bugged fans, from more technical ones like the Mako's control in the first game, to events that seemed to impact the world and story.
Thankfully, BioWare is getting a second chance with the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, a remastered collection of the three games from the Commander Shepard trilogy. The studio outlined a ton of the big improvements made to the game, such as the visuals, technical performance, and gameplay oriented changes such as fixing the combat and Mako handling from the first game. However, as fans have been playing, unannounced changes have also started coming to light including one that fixes a now decade old bug.

Inside of the first Mass Effect, players may come across Elanos Haliat on the planet Agebinium, a pirate who hates humans and is the previous leader of the Terminus Systems. Even though he's more of a side character, Haliat was involved in an attack on the human colony called Elysium, an event called the Skyllian Blitz that is referenced numerous times throughout the series. What made no sense however is that Haliat's character in the original game was Human, the race which he hated.
Naturally, his story didn't make sense as attacking human colony, using phrases like "Shepard's species" or even being appointed leader of the Terminus System by the other races didn't really fit. As many assumed, this was apparently a bug in the first game, one that went unfixed. With the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, BioWare has taken the time to fix it, making Haliat a Turian, which now fits much better with his story as well as the character's audio file to sound Turian as well.
While it may not impact the gameplay whatsoever, fans are clearly appreciative of these quality of life changes. In fact, BioWare has also corrected other small, yet notable issues including one involving the popular companion character Tali. For those who opted to romance the Quarian, Mass Effect 3 ended with Commander Shepard getting a picture of Tali without her mask and helmet, though as fans noted, the image was a photoshop based on a human stock photo model. Thankfully, the Legendary Edition fixes that by changing the photo to show a more unique picture of Tali without her helmet visor on.
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
