Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is out next month, and there are plenty of things that those interested in the game should know before launch.

With less than four weeks left until its release, the wait for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is almost over. Since its reveal in 2020, plenty has been shown on the game, so for those trying to catch up, there can be a lot to take in. While the game boasts the same core values as the original Ratchet and Clank games, with unique weapons and a lighthearted adventure at its core, it also boasts some interesting new features and content.

A proper PlayStation 5 exclusive, those looking to pick up Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart for the latest Sony console can expect a few things from the game. A brand-new storyline focused on dimensional travel will be the focus, with a new protagonist introduced as well. Fresh gameplay mechanics will be included alongside some new traversal moves for Ratchet, while Insomniac has also detailed the games pre-order bonuses. With pre-load and file sizes details clarified, too, here is all the must-know information for Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s narrative centers on the separation of Clank and Ratchet. While Insomniac Games has leaned on this trope in the past, as splitting up the pair of heroes is an easy way to give gamers a mission, the pair being broken up is being given a unique twist this time around. After falling through a rift into a new dimension, the dynamic duo is separated — only for a brand-new Lombax to stumble upon Clank. A female character named Rivet, players can expect a chunk of the story to be focused on learning about her origins.

As for Ratchet, he is trying to get back to his buddy, though he finds himself trapped in Nefarious City. A brand-new location ruled by the classic villain Dr. Nefarious, players find themselves in a dimension where Nefarious has succeeded in his evil plans. The main story will likely revolve around Ratchet and Rivet uniting to take on this smarter version of Nefarious, with players possibly even seeing the two Nefariouses team up. With plenty of cameo potential from classic Ratchet and Clank characters, the dimension-hopping story is shaping up to be a lot of fun.

When switching between Ratchet and Rivet, players can expect to see several new weapons and features. Weapons like the Topiary Sprinkler see enemies turned into plants, able to be killed instantly by a different weapon’s fire. Guns like the Burst Pistol and Enforcer make smart use of the PS5’s DualSense technology, with the adaptive triggers used to access different firing modes. Gamers will be able to wall-run and dash, both of which are first for the series. Rifts can also be opened, which allow players to flank enemies in certain arenas. The game will also include modes for 60 FPS play and ray-tracing, along players to adjust the impressive visuals of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

Plenty of side content will be available in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, including various challenge levels and golden bolts to collect. Planets will be more open and have lots of areas to explore as well, with Ratchet and Rivet able to enter pocket dimensions that hold exclusive items. Aerial battles will be available alongside collectible armor sets, with players getting some useful bonuses for collecting and equipping all three pieces of an outfit. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will offer extensive accessibility options, none of which disable trophies. A deep photo mode will be available as well.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart fans looking to pre-load the game so that it is ready to play the second it becomes available already know when they can do so. Pre-loads will begin on June 4, a full week before the game’s date of release. Getting the game downloaded in time should not be too much of an issue, either, as it takes up the least storage space of any PS5 exclusive thus far. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s file size sits at just over 42 GB, setting gamers up for a fairly quick download and install.

Finally, those that pre-order Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart can expect a few bonuses. Pre-purchasing the base version of the game includes early access to the Pixelizer weapon, a returning favorite that makes enemies look like they came from a much older video game. Gamers will also get early access to the Carbonox Armor for Ratchet and Rivet, which sees the Lombaxes donning some neat silver and red gear. Those that purchase Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart’s Digital Deluxe Edition will get five more suits on top of these items, with a digital art book and soundtrack included as well. A special photo mode sticker pack and 20 Raritarium will be included in the bundle as well, which will cost $10 more than a standard copy. With June quickly approaching, now would be the time for those interested in the game to pre-order a copy.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart launches June 11 on PS5.
