Subnautica: Below Zero doesn't encourage players to hunt predators, and those that want Snow Stalker Fur might discover this the hard way.

Subnautica: Below Zero is a survival game by every definition of the phrase, but it does differ from others in its genre in a few key ways. Notably, the game rarely encourages the player to go out and hunt predators, as even when they need something from a specific creature, violence isn't usually the answer. This is the case with Snow Stalker Fur, a fact that will surprise and possibly even frustrate those players that have tried time and time again to figure out how to harvest this resource on their own.

Planet 4546B is full of deadly fauna both above water and below. When diving, players can come across aggressive symbiotes, Squidsharks, and other ghastly predators, but the land in Subnautica: Below Zero isn't safe either. One of the apex predators of this ecosystem is the Snow Stalker, and players that want the cold resistant suit will need to collect some Snow Stalker Fur.

The first instinct of most players after seeing Snow Stalker Fur as a crafting requirement is no doubt to go and kill a Snow Stalker. Realistically speaking, this would be the best way to get fur in large amounts, but that isn't how players get this resource. Even should they manage to take one of these beasts down, there is no way to harvest any fur from a dead Snow Stalker. As counterintuitive as this is, it is also something of a blessing for players, as it means they aren't required to go toe to toe with the brutes in order to get the fur.

Instead, players will need a Spy Pengling in order to sneak up on the Snow Stalker and extract the fur while it is alive. By combining some titanium, a wiring kit, silicone rubber, and a battery, players can create a Spy Pengling to perform reconnaissance on land. Send a Spy Pengling towards a Snow Stalker and the creature will surprisingly remain docile. Get close enough and players can use the action button to pluck fur from the Snow Stalker, which thankfully doesn't seem to bother it all that much. The Spy Pengling can only carry four furs at a time, so players needing more than that will need to make a few trips.

Typically speaking, the Snow Stalker enemies can be found in the Glacial Basin biome, but they can also be found in the Arctic Spires and the East Arctic. This is currently the only way to collect Snow Stalker Fur, so players can put their knives and other weapons away for now.

Subnautica: Below Zero is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
