Keeping Shepard's squad alive is an important part of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and it's a necessary skill for the player to learn.

Combat is one of the major things that has been reworked in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. Done to both update the games' combat mechanics to be closer to other, modern equivalents and to make the process of playing the entire Mass Effect trilogy in a row a smoother one, the recent remaster does a lot right with its changes. After all, Commander Shepard spends plenty of the games' total playtime cozied up behind cover.

While being an effective leader requires Shepard to make tough choices outside of combat, keeping their squad alive during the many firefights they find themselves in is also a primary objective for the player in Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. This isn't always possible, however, as many of Shepard's adversaries are cunning and can deal deadly damage if they aren't taken care of resulting in downed squad members.

It's best to clarify that this isn't a guide for reviving characters who are killed throughout the duration of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition's narrative, but for squadmates who are "killed" in the many combat arenas Shepard and team find themselves in. While things shouldn't be too hectic if the player keeps an eye on the entirety of a combat situation, there are times when team members might lose all their HP and go down.

To prevent this, make sure that Shepard is healing their team using Medi-Gel periodically in every firefight. If a character does go down, however, don't worry, they're not really dead. They can be revived using a few methods. The easiest revival technique in Shepard's arsenal is the Unity talent that becomes available after becoming a Spectre in the early hours of the game. To unlock it in its base form, the player needs to put four skill points into the "Spectre Training" talent. There are two increasingly more powerful versions of the talent unlockable later in the tree.

To use Unity, wait for a squad member to be downed and then use the skill by pulling up the talent menu and selecting it. All downed teammates will get back up with 30% health and 50% shields. Using the other versions of the talent revive allies for 40% health, 75% shields and 50% health, 100% shields.

Another, riskier way to revive Shepard's team is to finish the firefight by defeating all the enemies. Once the final foe is finished, any downed team members will get back up and rejoin the group. This is obviously a riskier method as the player is at a disadvantage anytime they aren't fighting with a full squad to back them up. It should only be adopted if the fight is nearly over.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
