Water elevators in Minecraft are a great way to move up and down inside player-made buildings and towers and are pretty simple to build.

Players can and have built some amazing masterpieces of engineering in Minecraft. The sandbox's long list of materials allow players to create giant towers, massive recreations, and even making a copy of the Hawaiian Islands in Minecraft. But in order to move around these massive projects, players may need a fast-moving elevator to help them get up and down their massive structures.

To start a water elevator, players will need a few materials. The main components will be water, then whatever building blocks that players will use to contain the water. They will also need Magma blocks and Soul Sand. These are the basic building blocks for the Minecraft Water Elevator.

With the help of a Minecraft crafting table and these materials, players can start the building process. The basic structure of an elevator starts with three 1x1 brick, or in this case glass, towers stacked like the following image. Leave the center 1x1 square empty. The towers should be as tall as the floor of the level the player wants to be able to reach with this elevator.

Next, players need to put a door at the bottom of the tower and make sure it is closed. Any type of door will do here.

After that, add the fourth side to the tower above the door.

Players will need a bucket filled with water for the next part. Iron ingots are needed to make a bucket, then players just need to use it in any water source to obtain the watery part of the water elevator. The elevator will abuse a strange feature of water in the game; water continues to flow forever if properly contained. This allows players to make continuous waterfalls, flowing Minecraft portraits made entirely of water, and, most importantly, elevators. Pour the water into the empty space; once it's done filling the space, it will remain filled forever, even if the door is opened at the bottom of the tower.

Now players have a very tall contained 1x1 of water. Next, they will need to put either a Magma Block or a Soul Sand at the bottom of the elevator. Magma Blocks will pull players down from the top through the water, and the Soul Sand will push the players up through the water when placed at the bottom. Both Magma Blocks and Soul Sand are things players have to get in the Nether in Minecraft, but they are both fairly easy to find or build. Soul Sand is found all over the place in the Nether as is, no crafting required, in the Soul Sand Valley biome of the Nether.

In order to make one Magma block, players will have to combine four Magma Creams in the crafting menu, two in the first two blocks of the first row and two creams in the first two blocks of the second row. Magma cream is a mob loot dropped by Magma Cubes which are found in several biomes of the Nether in Minecraft. Creams can also be made by combining slime balls with blaze powder.

Now that the elevators are complete, players can ride them up and down as often as they like. With this basic structure, players can make all sorts of amazing new elevators to complete their masterpieces in Minecraft.

Minecraft is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
