Nickel Ore is one of many types of ore in Subnautica: Below Zero, and players will want a steady source of this if they want to upgrade vehicles.

Of the many different types of ore players will come across in Subnautica: Below Zero, Nickel is arguably one of the more important ones. This is because it is used in certain late game upgrades that can really change the way players go about exploring the depths of Planet 4546B. By now players probably know that most ore can be found in a variety of different types of Outcrops, but Nickel Ore is somewhat different. Players wanting to know where to find Nickel Ore, how to harvest it, and what sorts of important crafting recipes make use of it need look no further.

Subnautica: Below Zero promises that it will take players deeper underwater than ever before, but that doesn't mean it is handed to the player on a silver platter. Instead, they'll have to work for it, collecting materials and making upgrades that allow them to dive just a bit deeper each time.

Unlike many different ores in the game, Nickel Ore isn't actually found in an outcrop. Instead, it spawns on the bottom of the seabed in much the same way that Diamonds do. In order to find this valuable resource, players will need to look in the Crystal Caves, Deep Lilypads Cave, Fabricator Caverns and Lilypad Islands biomes. Harvesting this material is as doesn't require any kind of special tools, and is as simple as approaching it and pressing the button to pick it up. In the inventory, Nickel Ore only takes up one space.

The primary function of Nickel Ore is to be used in various vehicle upgrades. At the Fabricator, players can use Nickel Ore to craft a Jump Jet Upgrade for the Prawn Suit, and there are even more uses at the Modification Station. For the Prawn Suit, Nickel Ore is needed to get the second Depth Upgrade, and for the Seatruck, it is a vital component in the third Depth Upgrade. This impressive modification allows the Seatruck to withstand depths as low as 1000 meters under the sea.

As with many other items, it is also possible to receive this as a gift from a Sea Monkey, although this is hardly a reliable way of finding Nickel. Once the player has found a spot with a good abundance of Nickel in one of the aforementioned biomes, it may be worth crafting a beacon so players can find their way back later.

Subnautica: Below Zero is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
