Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's third DLC is expected to release this summer, and here is everything revealed about the expansion so far.

It has been over a year ever since Bandai Namco released Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, which received mostly positive reviews from both players and critics. Last November, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot saw the release of its second major DLC expansion that revolved around players engaging in battle with Golden Frieza, similar to the Resurrection F Saga.

Since then, fans have waited for the release of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's third DLC, eagerly anticipating where Bandai Namco plans to bring the game's story next. Luckily for players, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's third major DLC has been confirmed to release in the summer of 2021, and here is a breakdown of everything that has been revealed so far.

Several months ago, Bandai Namco confirmed the official name of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's third DLC, which is Trunks: The Warrior of Hope. Shortly after the story of the upcoming DLC was confirmed, fans wondered whether the DLC would go beyond Dragon Ball Z. Bandai Namco confirmed that it will only retell the origin story of future trunks and that the expansion would not feature the transition to Dragon Ball Super territory.

Although the limitations of the DLC may be disappointing to some fans, it is understandable that Bandai Namco will not feature storylines from Dragon Ball Super, given that the main game only covers the events of Dragon Ball Z. Shortly after DLC 3's announcement, screenshots of the expansion surfaced online showing that Future Gohan, who will also be playable in DLC 3, will be a different character than Adult Gohan, sparking speculation that the same may be true for the younger version of Future Trunks.

A series of screenshots released on Twitter last April provided more insights into how Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's third DLC will play out. One particular image showed a combination assault from Android 17 and 18, followed by another screenshot of small drones targeting Trunks. According to the tweet's caption, players would have to destroy these drones in time. Failure to do so would sound an alarm that would call upon Android 17 and 18 to fight against players. It is worth remembering that in this timeline, Goku is dead, and Future Trunks and Gohan are not powerful warriors. This is why taking down the drones in time to avoid direct confrontation with the androids should make players feel hunted and vulnerable, which perfectly captures the state that Future Trunks and Gohan finds themselves in this alternate timeline.

Although the exact release date of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's third DLC remains a mystery, Bandai Namco promised that it would launch in the early summer of 2021. Now, for players wondering whether the game will see another expansion after DLC 3, Bandai Namco has confirmed that the forthcoming expansion would be Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's last. Bandai Namco made this decision clear when it announced Trunks: The Warrior of Hope in a tweet with a caption saying, "Get ready to explore a dark future in the final DLC for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot."

It is worth remembering that while Bandai Namco did announce that DLC 3 would be the final one, there's been some confusion on what that actually meant. Initially, players assumed that Bandai Namco is referring to DLC 3 as being the last expansion for the first Season Pass. However, the tweet now clarified that DLC 3 will be the last one for the game, so players shouldn't expect another story expansion after the release of Trunks: The Warrior of Hope.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
