When Destiny 2's Season 14: Season of the Splicer went live earlier this month, it added all kinds of new content to Bungie's looter-shooter game. However, not all of the new content added with Destiny 2's Season 14 was added on purpose, with Bungie accidentally implementing crossplay with the big update. Bungie quickly disabled Destiny 2 crossplay shortly after it was discovered by fans, but now it seems crossplay will be returning to the game, and on purpose this time.

Bungie has confirmed plans for a Destiny 2 crossplay beta, set to go live in the game next week. The Destiny 2 crossplay beta will start on Tuesday, May 25 and last until Thursday, May 27, giving Destiny 2 fans across all platforms the chance to test the feature. Anyone that's interested in trying Destiny 2's future crossplay capabilities will be able to do so, as there are no signups necessary and the beta is completely to open to all players.

When the Destiny 2 crossplay beta goes live next week, players will be able to take on Vanguard Strikes with those on other platforms. It won't be possible to form fireteams or send game invites to friends while the Destiny 2 crossplay beta is live, but those who manage to complete at least three Vanguard Strikes will be rewarded for their efforts in the form of a Star Crossed emblem.

Destiny 2's crossplay beta won't allow Guardians to form fireteams because the main purpose of it is to test how the game's matchmaking works with crossplay. If players were able to invite their friends to a game, then it would defeat the purpose of the test. However, the ability to add players of other platforms to one's Destiny 2 fireteam should become available at some point later this year.

According to Bungie, the plan is for Destiny 2 crossplay to go live with Season 15. Whether or not that actually comes to pass remains to be seen, as there's always the possibility that some unforeseen technical issues cause hiccups that force the feature to be pushed back. Destiny 2 Season 14's end date is August 24, which means Season 15 will start around the same time, and so it seems that fans can look forward to crossplay being added near the end of summer.

Of course, Destiny 2 will be adding much more content with Season 15 besides just crossplay, though details on what it has in store will have to wait. For now, fans can continue playing through Destiny 2's Season of the Splicer activities as they try to save the Earth from the Endless Night.
