Despite rumors to the contrary and lofty expectations from fans, it's confirmed that Elden Ring won't be at the Taipei Game Show.

A new year means reinvigorated video game fans, or at least that seems to be the case for followers of Elden Ring. From Software's in-development action-RPG remains one of the most highly anticipated games currently announced. Hungry for new information, fans wait with bated breath for popular events to arrive just in case Elden Ring will make an appearance. At the moment, that next event is the Taipei Game Show. Unfortunately, there's bad news on that front.

Thursday night, which would have been Friday afternoon in Taiwan, the Taipei Game Show organizers ran a livestream showcasing a number of the event's partners. These partners included Square Enix, Xbox, and others in the video game industry. In other words, if From Software was going to be participating in the event then it would show up during one of these presentations. Fans then asked the Taipei Game Show organizers about Elden Ring specifically, after which the bad news was confirmed.

"Elden Ring is not at Taipei Game Show 2021," a message posted by event organizers in one of the livestream's YouTube chats reads. And the comment has proven accurate, so far. From Software and Elden Ring were not a part of either of the Taipei Game Show's online presentations on January 28 and 29. The show will continue through  January 31, leaving room for that to change, but the Taipei Game Show's statement should probably be taken for the truth at this point.

That hasn't stopped From Software communities online from speculating otherwise, of course. The Elden Ring subreddit's thread on the topic features comments saying that it's still possible that a surprise could be in store over the weekend. Other comments say it's good that the Taipei Game Show told fans early so that From Software fans wouldn't watch the presentations with false expectations. The polar opposite takes capture the current mood of From Software's fans very well.

The situation isn't helped by a new resurgent rumor that Elden Ring is going to be shown again very soon. Rumors of a February event started in late 2020, and have been reignited by Venture Beat's Jeff Grubb hinting to expect Elden Ring news within the next 60 days. None of this has been officially confirmed, but it's about as much as Elden Ring fans can expect.

Elden Ring remains in development at From Software with no confirmed release window. The last meaningful showcase of the game was its E3 2019 debut, which included the game's only trailer to date. It's just a matter of time before From Software shares more, but being patient isn't easy.

Elden Ring is currently in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
