Destiny 2 is bringing back its iconic Vault of Glass Raid, which means another Raid race is here, as players optimize their best loadouts.

Destiny 2's Season of the Splicer has been a great addition to the game for several reasons; including its synthwave-esque theme, an alliance with the Eliksni, how fun Override is, weapons both old and new, and of course the Vault of Glass' return. This Raid was one of the most popular Raids in Destiny, and it is now making a comeback to Destiny 2 thanks to the Vex-themed Season, including the legendary Exotic fusion rifle called Vex Mythoclast. This gun is unique, as it is a primary fusion rifle, and it was also extremely potent and sought after in the first game, marking its return to Destiny 2 a big event.

Still, in order to obtain this gun, players will likely be required to complete the Vault of Glass again, but this time in Destiny 2. A lot has changed between the first and the second game of Destiny, meaning while a lot of elements from the first title were re-introduced in Destiny 2, the meta for Raids and other content has changed drastically. Guardians in Destiny 2 are sensibly more powerful than they ever were in Destiny, and plenty of quality of life updates have shifted the meta towards something else entirely. As such, which loadouts are the best to use for the return of Vault of Glass, assuming it remains fundamentally the same as that of Destiny?

If Destiny 2's version of the Vault of Glass Raid stays the same in terms of encounters, then it's safe to assume that it will be heavily focused on dealing with regular enemies mainly, and then a few bosses, including Atheon. With this in mind, Guardians should focus their loadouts on having a few tools of mass destruction and some degree of crowd control, which means that Warmind Cells will be great in the Raid to clear adds as fast and efficiently as possible.

The best mods to generate Warmind Cells and make them very effective are the following:

  • Rage of the Warmind, which lets Warmind Cells destroyed by players deal additional Solar damage when they explode, meaning that the clear is more effective.
  • Wrath of Rasputin, which makes Solar splash damage final blows have a fair chance to create more Warmind Cells.
  • Global Reach, increasing the effective range of the damaging explosion from Warmind Cells, allowing it to hit more enemies than it otherwise would.
  • Warmind's Decree, which is not needed as much as the others, but it is a seasonal mod that does the same thing that Wrath of Rasputin does, but it costs three Energy and it affects Void splash damage, instead.

Grenade launchers are also seeing more use now, thanks to another seasonal mod that helps immensely with boss DPS. For grenade launchers the mods to use are these:

  • Breach and Clear, a Season 14 mod giving insane boosts to boss damage because of the detrimental effect it applies onto enemies, making them take 30% more weapon damage when hit by a grenade launcher (including Anarchy's Arc mines).
  • Grenade Launcher Scavenger, another seasonal mod from Season of the Splicer which lets grenade launchers get bonus reserves when picking up ammo for them.

As for more defensive mods to use to survive all the enemy adds in the Vault of Glass Raid, players should look at the following combination:

  • Taking Charge, which lets Guardians become Charged with Light whenever they pick up Orbs of Power.
  • Supercharged, which allows players to have two additional stacks of Charged with Light, up to a maximum of five stacks total.
  • Protective Light, which grants a decent amount of damage mitigation to Guardians who get low on health, increasing the effectiveness of the damage resistance buff based on the number of Charged with Light stacks consumed (minimum 1).
  • High-Energy Fire, which is not a defensive mod, but it works based on the Charged with Light stacks, granting Guardians a boost to their weapon damage while they are Charged with Light, removing a stack per enemy killed.

While armor pieces also have other stats that are important and do have an impact on Guardians' performance in Raids, most of the time the biggest role is played by guns, mods, and subclasses. For Vault of Glass specifically, it would be beneficial to have decent Resilience, Recovery, and Discipline; because of the amount of damage taken by enemies, how fast health goes up while damaged, and the AoE capabilities of grenades, respectively. Mobility will help too, especially in the Maze section, if it carries over in Destiny 2.

Weapons are a tricky subject, but there are a few loadouts that can perform better than others. Keep in mind that these loadouts can and should change in between encounters, because at times some will be much better than others, like how Shotguns will be king in part one of the Raid. These are among the primary weapons Guardians are most likely to find helpful:

  • Izanagi's Burden, which is arguably one of the most efficient single-target DPS Exotics in Destiny 2.
  • Witherhoard, a great grenade launcher that helps to have the Breach and Clear debuff up at all times, while also helping with the clear.
  • Ignition Code, which is a grenade launcher capable of using blinding grenades, thus applying Breach and Clear and crowd control.
  • Any kinetic sniper that players feel comfortable with, so to use the Exotic slot for something else.

The following energy weapons can be useful:

  • Any Void shotgun for part one, especially when the Praetorians are the main threat to keep at bay.
  • IKELOS weapons to help with Warmind Cells, especially the SMG, and especially if rolled with Surrounded.
  • Divinity, the Exotic trace rifle, especially useful to have on a single Guardian in the fireteam thanks to its debuff.

These, instead, are the best power weapons to carry:

  • Anarchy, which is one of the best Breach and Clear triggers, and also deals great damage on top of it.
  • Any Void sword, useful for close combat and Void shields.
  • The Lament, for increased add clearing abilities and healing.
  • Royal Entry or Code Duello, rocket launchers that will help create Warmind Cells.
  • Deathbringer, which is arguably one of the strongest Exotic weapons in the game DPS-wise.

As for class-specific tips, refer to these, keeping in mind that the Hunters' Star-Eater Scales have been disabled during the race:

  • Titans - 1) Top-tree Sentinel with Helm of Saint-14, used for crowd control and to grant allies a useful overshield. 2) Mid-tree Striker with Cuirass of the Falling Star to turn Thundercrash into a semi-Celestial Nighthawk.
  • Warlocks - 1) Mid-tree Dawnblade with either Boots of the Assembler or Phoenix Protocol, for enhancing the Well of Radiance. 2) Mid-tree Stormcaller with Geomag Stabilizers, to improve the effectiveness of Chaos Reach.
  • Hunters - 1)  Top-tree Nightstalker with Orpheus Rig, to have tether up most of the time against adds and bosses. 2) Top-tree Gunslinger with Celestial Nighthawk for immense boss damage.

Good luck to all Guardians facing the Vault of Glass when it releases tomorrow, hoping they have fun with optimizing builds and loadouts.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
