Getting Table Coral Samples are incredibly important in the early parts of Subnautica: Below Zero. Here's what you need to know about them.

Subnautica: Below Zero is finally here, giving everyone Thalassophobia (fear of the Ocean) and filling their dreams with wandering Leviathans. This standalone installment has players returning to Planet 4546B but casts a cold shadow over the entire adventure. This time, explorers will have to brave the arctic depths, fending off the cold and discovering new species in an ice-riddled area.

It's a brand new quest but, thankfully, features a lot of the same gameplay mechanics as its predecessor. After being tossed into the ocean, players will need to explore, craft, and build their way to victory, but not everything about this new area is black and white. There are a lot of materials needed to craft certain items and one of the most important in the early game is Table Coral. These useful, pancake-shaped organisms are an enigma to find for some, so here's all there is to know about them.

Table Coral are, well, coral, but their samples are absolutely necessary for success in Subnautica: Below Zero. They grow in groups, usually horizontally (jutting from walls and rocks), but it is possible to find them growing vertically (attached to the seafloor). Thankfully, they're easy to spot due to their flat circular shape and the shining jewel-like spots sprinkled over their tops and bottoms. They also come in four distinct colors; purple, green, blue, & red.

Once harvested (with the Thermoblade or Survival Knife), the Table Coral will drop one Table Coral Sample.

Table Coral aren't hard to find if you know where to look, but it is important to note that they aren't "overflowingly abundant." There are two main areas that you'll be able to harvest these necessary nodes:

  • Lilypad Islands
  • Twisty Bridges

By simply exploring these two zones and looking along the walls and seafloor, you should be able to gather up Table Coral Samples.

When players first spawn into a fresh world in Subnautica: Below Zero, they need to make Table Coral Samples a priority. These miniature orange disks (they show up orange in the player inventory no matter what color Table Coral is harvested) are responsible for creating the Computer Chip, a material required for the creation of many of the tools and technologies available in the game.

Table Coral Samples are also used to build Parallel Processing Units and Scanner Rooms.

Players are going to need to get their hands on a substantial amount of Table Coral depending on what tools and technologies they need to build. It takes two Table Coral Samples to build one Computer Chip (but thankfully it only takes one chip to build each technology or tool).

Sadly, as of writing, there is no possible way to grow and reliably farm Table Coral. The only way players can get their hands on Table Coral Samples is to explore the ocean depths and find them naturally. Thankfully, they're not too difficult to find, but it can definitely take a bit of time to secure enough if players need a large amount of them.

It's also possible to receive them as a material from Sea Monkeys, but players shouldn't seek this out as a guaranteed way to get a Table Coral Sample as Sea Monkeys have a large pool of materials that they can randomly offer to the player.
