As part of the promotional campaign, Marvel has released a new video for Disney Plus’ much-awaited series Loki that features the lead actor Tom Hiddleston trying to catch fans up on the titular character’s MCU history. The catch is that he has only 30 seconds to do that, but of course, the God of Mischief doesn’t follow any rules.
Hiddleston is on the clock and begins all the way from Loki’s first introduction back in 2011’s Thor. It was the third Marvel movie that introduced a new superhero, and his anti-hero brother, from the comics into the MCU. In the past decade, fans have formed a love-hate relationship with Loki, who can’t seem to pick a side and constantly shifts his allegiance.

Focusing on the major plot points of Loki’s history, Hiddleston does a good job of reminding fans of how far he has come. He talks about the beginning when his father Odin, who isn’t his “real dad,” wants Thor to be king, which obviously doesn’t sit well with Loki. He takes the help of his biological father Laufey, ruler of the Frost Giants in Jotunheim, to sabotage Thor’s coronation. The God of Thunder gets mad, tries to seek vengeance, and gets banished to Earth, leaving the God Mischief to work his sinister magic on Asgard.
The video then goes on with Hiddleston divulging a lot of information from Loki’s past as quickly as possible. From stealing the Tesseract from S.H.I.E.L.D to defeating their sister Hela Odinsdottir, all the way to how Loki dies at the hands of Thanos only for an “earlier version” of him to show up in 2012, when the Avengers go back in time to save the world. Needless to say, the clip is a mouthful. Just as time runs out, Hiddleston does what Loki does best and cheats. Stopping the clock with two seconds remaining, he completes the story with Thanos’ defeat and Loki getting a job with the Time Variance Authority, the organization tasked with ensuring that the timeline stays secure.
Fans saw Loki dying in the first few minutes of Avengers: Infinity War, but an alternate version of the character then shows up in Avengers: Endgame, steals the Tesseract, and makes a run for it. This version of Loki is who fans will be watching in the upcoming series as he gets involved with the TVA. The previous Loki trailers and clips have already made it clear that he will be used by the TVA to fix the timeline that he so cleverly broke.
It seems like Hiddleston could teach a course on his character’s history since he even helped Loki co-star Owen Wilson prepare for the upcoming Disney Plus series by offering him a crash course on the MCU. Wilson, who isn’t fluent in MCU tidbits, revealed in past interviews that he didn’t do any comics research into his role. Instead, he turned to Hiddleston for assistance and referred to the sessions, which lasted a few days, as “Loki lectures.” Hiddleston even went on to show Wilson important clips from the older MCU films to help him understand and be aware of the events that led to the Loki series.
Loki premieres on Disney Plus on June 9, 2021.
